Huckabee: Nice guys finish last, or first?
The Times wonders why social conservatives aren’t hearting Huckabee:
Unlike any of the major candidates, he’s still on his first wife and first position on abortion. Once we start getting into the inevitable personal stories of redemption, Americans would have a much better time listening to Huckabee tell how he lost 110 pounds than sitting through Rudy’s 9/11 story again or looking at pictures of Mitt’s 10 grandchildren.
The column calls him this election’s likable candidate, who can be “both funny and convincing on the stump.” The column also says he would be an awful leader, because: “He doesn’t know beans about foreign affairs, he wants to replace the income tax with a national sales tax, and his positions on social issues are far to the right of the general populace.” Of course, the general populace doesn’t really define what’s right, so we’ll excuse that last one.

I’m liking Huckabee more and more every day.
“Why aren’t more people liking Huckabee?”
Could it be because Huckabee is a holy roller who knows nothing about science, and who spreads lies about science.
From the hick Huckabee: “If anybody wants to believe that they are the descendants of a primate, they are certainly welcome to do that.”
Even grammar school students know humans ARE primates. Huckabee doesn’t even know that. Does America really need another moron president?
QWERTY –
Not only are humans not primates, they aren’t even in the same kingdom as primates. They were assigned to their own kingdom by their creator and placed over the three other kingdoms. Don’t sell yourself short.
Awstar, then you should vote for Huckabee, because he is just as deluded and just as ignorant about science as you are.
Huckabee is an ordained Southern Baptist minister.
What is it about Baptist ministers? Why are they always lying about science, when it’s so obvious they know nothing about it?
Awstar, even though you are wrong about everything, I appreciate your comments, because you described perfectly what is wrong with Christians.
Christians are brainwashed to believe they are completely separate from nature, and that people are a big deal. This is a harmful belief and it explains why many Christians don’t care that the world is being trashed and don’t care about the extinction of other animals.
Your “Don’t sell yourself short” makes no sense. I am very happy I am part of nature. I’m even more happy I have enough common sense to understand what humans really are - just one branch on the massive tree of life, insignificant animals on an insignificant planet. I like the proven idea we are just an ape species, instead of slaves of some magician who created us out of nothing.
Qwerty likes to make a monkey out of himself, Awstar.
Satchel Paige once said, “Don’t look back, someone might be gaining on you.”
Huckabee is slowly making headway. If he wins in Iowa the money will come in and he’ll be a bonafide candidate as Thompson, Romney, and the others start fading. Rasmussen already has him passing the old warrior from AZ.
Guiliani is definitely worried about Huckabee and reports from the Clinton camp are that she is concerned as well.
I like Huckabee. Bill Clinton started out as an unknown governor of a small Southern state. Perhaps Huckabee can follow that path (without the negative baggage and accusations from former dalliances).
I know that lotsa folks slam governors for not having foreign policy experience? Oh really? Dont most of our states have economic developmt agencies out there trying to lure firms to relocate to their states? The border state governors regularly meet with their Mexican counterparts.
Plus we all know that governors have to make ultimate decisions about the direction their state governmts will take. Unlike Joe Biden, Chris Dodd and other Senators, Governor Huckabee and other governors dont have the luxury of looking around and counting colleagues votes before deciding up or down on any policy.
That isnt a blank endorsemt for governors as better presidents than Senators by any stretch. The last two Senators to become President were Nixon and LBJ. A great Senator can be master of his domain yet totally incompetent when put in the executive branch.
What exactly should be the criteria for “foreign policy experience”?? McCainiacs point to his experience in Viet Nam. I have to agree that old vets/former POWs like McCain would never blunder the USA into any type of elective, avoidable war.
If Huckabee does win the Republican nomination, or if he is chosen to be the candidate for vice-president, this would guarantee the next president will be a Democrat. Huckabee is just plain dumb, and after 7 years of the Bush administration, most Americans are fed up with the idea of having a stupid president.
I know the fundies here don’t think it’s a big deal if the president of the united states knows less about science than any child in the 5th grade, but there’s enough Americans who could never tolerate that much ignorance in their president. Republicans are dumb enough to nominate a hick like Huckabee, but they have no chance of winning the election.
Huckabee’s idea of having a national sales tax would be an excellent way of creating a recession. Buying slows down when prices increase, putting people out of work, which would cause even less buying. The idea of a national sales tax, which would raise the price of everything, is exactly what I would expect from the brainless Huckabee hick.
Qwerty- If the national sales tax were introduced, prices would actually be lowered, since the corporations would not be taxed, thus meaning the middlemen are not paying as much. Also, without having up to 35% of our income taken from us before we see it, we will all have more money to spend. Do your homework, that is, if your monkey brain is not too taxed to think about anything but your pet topic.
(Note- since qwerty believes he is descended from monkeys, then he has a monkey brain, therefore it is not an insult to him to say so.)
Would it be at all possible to discuss this subject without resorting to ad hominem attacks?
As a proud primate, I have wondered why the Evangelicals were not promoting Huckabee more. Seems like he should have been their go-to guy all along.
Some people would like to believe they evolved from other living and breathing creatures and life on this planet is related and intertwined. All evidence points to that.
The Huckster believes he was made from dirt. AND he wants to teach that as science.
The Bush disdain for science has resulted in an exodus of scientist from the government and the attempt by this administration to falsify scientific data to the detriment of the country. Is Bush purposely damaging the country, no. It’s just that since he doesn’t believe in science, he doesn’t believe he is causing any damage.
The Huckster has even less respect for science than Bush. His damage would be much worse.
Below is some examples. Do any of you actually believe that the Huckster would have even the tiniest bit more respect for science than Bush?

WASHINGTON—An investigative report by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and the Government Accountability Project (GAP) has uncovered new evidence of widespread political interference in federal climate science. The report, which includes a survey of hundreds of federal scientists at seven federal agencies and dozens of in-depth interviews, documents a high regard for climate change research but broad interference in communicating scientific results.
“The new evidence shows that political interference in climate science is no longer a series of isolated incidents but a system-wide epidemic,” said Dr. Francesca Grifo, Director of the UCS Scientific Integrity Program. “Tailoring scientific fact for political purposes has become a problem across many federal science agencies.”
As Peter L so eloquently explained in post 11, Brainwoman, referring to Qwerty as a monkey is not at all an ad hominen attack, since Querty himself believes humans to be “primates” who are simply more advanced “monkeys” than other animals.
I agree with Outkast. Nothing wrong with calling people monkeys. It’s closer to the truth than saying we are somehow special and separate from animals and the natural world. We should probably be called apes, though.
Qwerty, have you seen the movie Zeitgeist? It’s very interesting how much Christianity has in common with many other primitive belief systems based on astrology. Many shared metaphors and themes. It’s a long movie, but the section on Christianity (1 of 3) begins about 8 or 9 minutes in. You can skip to that section. I recommend starting at the George Carlin bit
http://zeitgeistmovie.com/
Some people need to pay closer attention. I never called Qwerty a monkey, I just said he has a monkey brain. Big difference. (But never having actually met him, I cannot verify that he is a human with a monkey brain, he could very well be a monkey.)
#14. The Huckster believes he was made from dirt. AND he wants to teach that as science.
Every Darwinist biology teacher believes we were all made from dirt, and I as a Christian believe I was made from dirt…. but my Maker had a plan when he did it.
QWERTY: Huckabee’s not “dumb”,nor “stupid”, nor “brainless”. No, he’s just got a different cover on his puzzle box. His jigsaw puzzle… it’s a picture of life and goodness and hope.
In an attempt to bring this thread back to the original subject matter, I’ll say that I don’t ‘heart’ Huckabee because I have read several times that he’s in favor of open borders. I won’t support any candidate who does not declare his support for strong control of our borders and no amnesty or amnesty-like special treatment of illegal migrants.
#2 QWERTY
Huckabee was a Baptist minister. Baptists ae not “holy rollers.” Now if he was a Pentecostal…
I sure hope you know more about primates than you do about denominations and their nick names.
Kayvee,
According to his website, his primary objective is to secure the borders…
#19: “In an attempt to bring this thread back to the original subject matter”
I don’t think the (fake) controversy between evolution and creationism is off-topic because Huckabee denies evolution. I suggest just his denial of this important scientific fact makes Huckabee totally unqualified to be a president or even a governor. In the 21st Century when we are competing with the rest of the world we can’t have political leaders who know less about science than grammar school students.
I have made the same point about Huckabee several times on here. While I’m not a Christian or a Republican, and I would be opposed to nearly everything he stands for, I think he’s a decent fellow.
He toes the line on the two issues that matter most to conservative Christians (abortion and marriage), he’s a Baptist minister, and he’s conservative. It seems like he’d be a natural choice for conservative Christians.
As I mentioned before, I think there’s going to be a split between conservative Christians who stand on principle and those who go for pragmatism.
Bob Buckles (#20): Huckabee was a Baptist minister. Baptists ae not “holy rollers.” Now if he was a Pentecostal…
holy roller: Used as a disparaging term for a member of any of various religious denominations in which spiritual fervor is expressed by shouts and violent body movements.
While Huckabee is not technically a holy roller, I call him a holy roller anyway because I am convinced he’s as crazy and dumb as a holy roller. When he denied evolution during a televised debate, he disgraced our country. He deserves no respect.
I support Huckabee and have for a while. Liberals have made the evolution question an issue so that they can score points with their base. What does Huckabee’s unbelief in a naturalistic theory of origins have to do with being president? Evolutionists are just afraid of the scientists who criticize evolution and want a president who will suppress the freedom of speech of any scientist or teacher who opposes evolution. A proven theory could fight its own battles. Evolution apparently cannot.
Huckabee supports closing off the borders first and wants to focus on stopping the massive inflow of millions of illegal immigrants. Huckabee is against abortion and infanticide (partial-birth abortion). He’s against government support of homosexual relationships. Even if he couldn’t get the fair tax enacted, he would cut taxes rather than raise them. He does great in debates. He’s calm and respectful when given tough questions; he listens and responds with sincerity. He has been able to do more with much less money than other Republican candidates. He’ll outdebate any of the Democratic candidates.
My pick: Huckabee/Hunter 2008
“What does Huckabee’s unbelief in a naturalistic theory of origins have to do with being president?”
Evolution is accepted by the entire scientific community for the simple reason it’s a proven fact. Huckabee is denies all the the evidence for evolution for the simple reason he’s stupid. I suggest after 8 years of Bush we don’t really need another stupid president.
” Evolutionists are just afraid of the scientists who criticize evolution…”
Afraid? No. Normal people just don’t like the idea of liars trying to destroy science education with their childish beliefs in magic.
Also, your “scientists who criticize evolution” is a lie. No competent scientist denies evolution is a proven fact.
Huckabee is just one example of how fundies have destroyed the Republican party. Thanks to the anti-science know-nothing fundies, “Republican” has become just another word for stupidity. Thanks to the fundies it might take decades before there’s a Republican president again. By the way, I’ve been voting for Republicans since 1976, and I’m not the only one who is fed up with what the Republican party has become.
#25: “suppress the freedom of speech”
For anyone who thinks not allowing the teaching of the incredible stupidity of creationism in a science class is suppressing the freedom of speech, they need to understand magic beliefs are not science, and for that reason don’t belong in a science class.
Just today a biologist explained it on his blog:
We do reject Intelligent Design from the academy, from science, and from science education, and there’s a very good reason for that: it’s the same reason we reject astrology, alchemy, creationism, haruspication, necromancy, ornithomancy, and witchcraft from our science courses. Because they aren’t science.
The coalition between the evangelical right, the neo-cons and libertarian right saved the REpublican party and helped unravel the New Deal coalition in the Democratic party. However, a Huckabee nomination may breach the coalition since his some of his social and economic policies may upset the neo-con and business community.
As for sales tax, its effect, good or bad, will be on what it replaces. A national sales tax is basic public policy throughout the world and is considered by most economist to be neutral.
Querty, I’ve been sitting back and reading what’s been written today on several postings and have a notion that you like to be heard.
I wonder if you are a good listener as well.
You keep stating opinions as facts. You accuse others of being uneducated while you do nothing to show that you care to substantiate what you write with facts (I was taught this was the basis of science: hypothesis, experiment, conclusion on basis of experiment).
You tell everyone your biggest bone with people is that they don’t mind their own business while you keep minding everyone’s else’s business. (don’t say words don’t interfere)
I would like to challenge you to seriously consider your words:
Murder is less grave than someone minding someone’s business?
Scientists always are pro-evolution?
Christians are brainwashed?
You create your own truth and then you verbally abuse those who disagree with you. Why?
If you eveolved from a lower life form, you should have more confidence in yourself. It is a mark of feeling insecure to abuse others that don’t think like you.
Respectfully,
an in your eyes “lower life form”
“Murder is less grave than someone minding someone’s business?”
I don’t like the idea of abortion, but yes, sticking your nose into somebody else’s private life is much worse.
“Scientists always are pro-evolution?”
Every single competent biologist in the world completely accepts the massive evidence for evolution. Only the creationists, who are either liars or they believe liars, deny this.
It’s become a big business in this country to lie for Jesus. The worst example is the Discovery Institute. One of their lies is there is some real controversy about evolution. Every scientist who has ever heard of the Disco Institute knows every single fake scientist who works there is a liar.
“Christians are brainwashed?”
Yes. They are brainwashed beyond any hope. They can’t be cured. I noticed when they are showing off how holy they are, they look spaced out and crazy, like they are on some illegal and dangerous drug.
“If you evolved from a lower life form”
This is a common misconception about evolution. No animal is a lower life form. All animals alive today, including us, have evolved to become good enough to survive in their environment. Humans, who can’t fly or live underwater without their modern inventions, are not the big deal some people think they are.
case in point
rest my case
“You tell everyone your biggest bone with people is that they don’t mind their own business while you keep minding everyone’s else’s business.”
This is a good example of the non-logic of a theist.
Writing comments on a blog, comments which nobody is forced to read, is not the same as, for example, a fundie trying to get their government to pass laws that force women to have babies they don’t want. Unlike fundies, I don’t care what people do privately. I do object when somebody tries to force their fake morals on everyone else, or when somebody attacks science educaton just because it conflicts with the insanity in their holy book. But what they do privately I could care less. Unlike fundies, I’m not interested in other people’s private lives.
Any thoughts of Chuck Norris’ endorsement of Mike Huckabee?
Don’t mind qwerty.
He’s right. Gets to him.
Qwerty #26: Evolution is accepted by the entire scientific community for the simple reason it’s a proven fact.
Well, you have shown your ignorance of science, unless things have changed in the years since my last biology class. I did not know evolution had been promoted from a theory to a fact. I was always taught that in order for science to accept something as fact (law), there had to be observation. Since no one was around at the beginning, both evolution and creation will never be anything more than scientific theories.
Peter, could you provide some peer reviewed sources for creation being a scientific theory? Something peer reviewed would be exceptional.
DEB, Chuck Norris tears cure cancer. Too bad Chuck Norris never cries.
#37: Well, you have shown your ignorance of science,
Since you obviously claim to have some knowledge of science, perhaps this will help?
From the Glossary of Scientific Terms
Theory
A scientific theory is an established and experimentally verified fact or collection of facts about the world. Unlike the everyday use of the word theory, it is not an unproved idea, or just some theoretical speculation
Peter L: “Since no one was around at the beginning, both evolution and creation will never be anything more than scientific theories.”
Yeah, what both Hamachi and RDEAN said.
I suggest to all creationists, and especially the Huckabee hick, they should try to educate themselves about the science of evolution. The creationist excuse for their denial of science (no one was around at the beginning) does not work. Today scientists can see the entire history of life when they analyze DNA. To better understand how scientists can determine evolutionary relationships and be certain of their conclusions, I suggest the book I am reading now by Sean Carroll,
The Making of the Fittest: DNA and the Ultimate Forensic Record of Evolution.
Huckabee, you ignorant know-nothing hick, here’s a review of Carroll’s book. You should read it instead of making a fool of yourself, and disgracing your country with your god-did-it idiocy.
Throw out your fossils—the best evidence for evolution is now found in DNA.
DNA is the genetic blueprint of all creatures. Scientists have only recently discovered that it is also a living chronicle of evolution. In this book, leading biologist and writer Sean B. Carroll takes us on an exhilarating tour of the exquisite evolutionary record. The DNA record of evolution is filled with surprises. Immortal genes and evolution repeating itself are two of the stunners that await the lucky reader. The case for evolution can no longer be contested now that the DNA evidence is revealed.
Well, I tried to bring the thread back to Huckabee instead of the ongoing evolution theory versus creationism. Please, doesn’t that merit a few digital dollars?
Deb I will try to rethread the thread.
Is Chuck Norris an evangelical Christian?
I read his endorsement of Huckabee.
http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=58255
Chuck certainly knows how to read a script, but that’s his job isn’t it? On the other hand, if Huckabee gets elected, and Chuck Norris travels with him, the nation would save a lot of money on the President’s Secret Service protection, because Chuck by himself would replace an entire SS detail. If you believe his movie exploits are real.
I am saddened by the attitudes of the GOP voters.
I did not want to admit this, but maybe it is time to abandon ship.
When being anti-abortion, and anti-gay marriage is all that is required for a candidate to be considered conservative, then that word has no meaning at all.
If Mike Huckabee is the GOP candidate, I will not vote..Even better, I’ll vote for Ron Paul as a third-party candidate.
Wanna get crazy?..Lets just do it then.
You guys keep your GOP liberal, I’ll just be another former republican that the party left.
“I am saddened by the attitudes of the GOP voters.”
Welcome to the club, Meaner. You’ll have to change your name soon.
#41: I tried to bring the thread back to Huckabee instead of the ongoing evolution theory versus creationism.
Those like the Huckster believe that evolution is “just a theory” that has no impact on every day lives. They don’t realize that all the sciences are connected. The way the religious try to divide science into non-overlapping areas like their attempt with maco and micro, they also try to divide everything into neat little areas. They refuse to believe that evolution is the foundation science of biology, botany and physiology, they don’t see, homology and analogy. There are new fields of evolution emerging, such as phylogenetic systematics, coevolution, convergence, cultural evolution, ecotypic evolution, enation theory, endosymbiosis hypothesis, gastraea theory, heredity, morphology, natural history, serial endosymbiosis theory. Understanding evolution and earth’s history would help us to understand if Global Warming is even a problem. New crops are made with knowledge from evolution. It goes on and on.
How are we supposed to trust our future to a man that believes that problems can be solved with prayer? Your prayers are answered 0.000001% of the time and you say that is proof that God is listening. The other 99.999999% of the time are God’s will. No, and I say it again, no. We have to take charge of our own futures. Stay away from mysticism and the occult. Let’s look at real world problems. The Huckster would be a greater disaster than Bush.
Good points, RDEAN.
Aside from a prodigious cut-and-paste job, what were the points that were good? Has Huckabee said he would pray problems away? Really? He said this? Please stop degrading the conversation with bumperstickerisms.
Might Wow consider thread moderators who could step back and bring a thread back on topic?
(I’m not volunteering for that task)
I like Huckabee. He certainly is willing to think outside the preacher/politician box of standard nostrums and cliches.
But I will still hopefully pull the lever for Sen McCain assuming he’s still in by the time Texas holds its primary! Huck for Veep!
Sawgunner,
I think this thread got sidetracked because Huckabee isn’t that compelling. Just my guess. I too wonder why the fundamentalists aren’t throwing their support to him in larger numbers. Seems like a good match.
#48: “But I will still hopefully pull the lever for Sen McCain”
Didn’t McCain vote AGAINST the bush tax cuts? McCain is a fake republican. He has as much of a chance of winning the nomination as the hick huckabee has, none.
I remember the debate when huckabee announced to the world how stupid he was when he said he was an evolution denier.
Then the almost as stupid McCain started babbling about God and the Grand Canyon. All politicians are lying morons, but the Republicans have proven they are the most stupid.
Only in America, the most backward and bloody stupid country in the Western world, could there be a conversation like the one below. Our politicians have as much intelligence as a dog.
Q: Do you believe in evolution?
McCAIN: Yes.
Q: I’m curious, is there anybody on the stage that does not agree, believe in evolution?
[TANCREDO, HUCKABEE, and BROWNBACK raise their hands, indicating that they do not believe in evolution].
McCAIN: I believe in evolution. But I also believe, when I hike the Grand Canyon and see it at sunset, that the hand of God is there also.
Yeah McCain you brainless subhuman. The magic man makes the sun set. Your invisible friend must be pushing the earth to make it rotate every day. McCain was obviously sucking up to the stupid voters who are even dumber than he is.
I didn’t know much about Huckabee before reading this article. Now I’m researching him and I’m pretty sure that I’ll vote for him. He’s the first candidate I’ve read about that I think I could feel pleased to vote for.
A couple reasons why Conservatives may not be getting behind Huckabee are that while Governor of Arkansas he raised taxes on a consistent basis, he expanded state Government many many times, and he gave college scholarships to illegal aliens. While is a solid social conservative he is moderate to left leaning on economic issues.
#47: Has Huckabee said he would pray problems away? Really? He said this?
When he puts the occult and mysticism ahead of good science, which he certainly has with his disdain of the science of evolution (which includes all of the sub sciences of evolution I listed in #45) then he most certainly would pray problems away. If you don’t believe in the reality of science, then what do you believe in? Nothing at all? He has made it clear that he believes in the supernatural.
Personally, I find that Qwerty’s incivility makes Huckabee more palatable.
There are at least two possible rhetorical stances when it comes to discussion about evolution, global warming, or nearly any other polarizing issue:
1.) “Those who disagree with me deserve no respect because, denying what is obvious to me, they render themselves unworthy of even a modicum of deference, a bare verbal gesture of regard. Since my own beliefs are objectively true and thereby require no persuasion, those who disagree with me are, by default, odious. Thus, my only obligation to them is to heap scorn upon them, to expose their retrograde stupidity for what it obviously is. That I am obligated in any way to imagine that I might be wrong, is simply unimaginable.”
2. “I disagree with my opponents, but nonetheless I shall treat them with respect. I admit that the burden of proof is first and foremost upon myself. Because I believe that to seek the truth is truly good, I shall undertake to hold my own beliefs under intense scrutiny in order not to condemn others for failing to share my own personal predilections. My rhetoric shall reflect this skeptical humility. Moreover, since I believe in the possibility of change and transformation, I shall reject as anathema all personal attacks, which I realize are unlikely to persuade anyone who does not already share my opinions. Above all, I realize that my obligation is to what is true and truly good, and so I will try and show this even in my words. In a disembodied electronic forum, the temptation to do otherwise may be especially acute, but nonetheless I will do my best to generate more light than heat.”
“When he puts the occult and mysticism ahead of good science … then he most certainly would pray problems away.”
Please provide evidence of him having done so in the past as an indicator of what he would do. As a Governer, he left some records behind.
#57: Please provide evidence of him having done so in the past
He said he believes in “mystical creation” and believes the controvery should be taught in school. How much more evidence do you need?
Please provide citations of him either attempting to pray our problems away or saying he would. Otherwise, please stop saying things that arent true. Sloppy innuendo doesn’t count for evidence.
Here’s an interesting article on one of Huckabee’s Pastor supporters praying for the death of people.
Recently Rev. Drake sent out a letter offering his personal endorsement of Huckabee for President. Just endorsing Huckabee as an individual would not have gotten him in trouble but he made the technical error of sending out this endorsement on church stationery. That puts him in the position of a church leader endorsing a political candidate and, under Internal Revenue Service rules, that jeopardizes his church’s tax exempt status.
So while other ministers are praying for peace or praying for blessings from God, and encouraging their followers to do the same, Rev. Drake is asking his parishioners to pray for revenge; he is calling for an imprecatory prayer for the punishment and/or deaths of officials of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
Today’s International Herald Tribune reports the following:
“On his Internet show, in a news release on ChristianNewsWire and in an e-mail to Americans United, Drake called on others to pray that the Americans United officials be punished. He gave as examples of imprecatory prayer:
“Persecute them. … Let them be put to shame and perish.”
“Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”
“Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg.”
Rev. Drake claims that this is what God wants — he says (correctly by the way), that the Bible calls for imprecatory prayer when someone “attacks the church.”
Boy, am I glad studies show prayer doesn’t work
http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/viewArticle.asp?articleID=35362
The Reverend Drake is mistaken.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12
Huckabee strikes me as a guy whose heart is in the right place but whose head is on extended lunch break. I think he’s a genuinely good guy with a desire for positive change who has bought a pre-packaged political platform.
Still, he’s the second and last Republican I’d vote for (Paul is the first). If Huckabee won the nomination, I’d chose Obama over Huckabee but Huckabee over Clinton.
I wouldn’t vote for Guiliani if he were running against Satan himself. And not primarily because of his stance on abortion (though I strongly oppose it) or gay marriage (about which I give not a fig), but because I’m convinced he’s a heavy-handed, power-hungry authoritarian. Guiliani’s not running for President; he’s running for Czar.
I’ve been reading the Bible alot this year (actually listening via the 1 Year Daily Audio Bible podcast). And throughout the Old Testament … reading about God’s dealings with judges, kings, prophets, and the religious leaders of the day: there was never any hint of God accepting anything less than a full devotion to principle.
Nowhere did God suggest it was acceptable to abandon His law, in order to take a more practical path to achieve some end.
I’ve been viewing the presidential race in a similar light. Principle over practicality. Sticking with what you believe to be right instead of adhering to some calculation to support a less desirable candidate just because they might have a better chance at winning.
As I look for a candidate that fits the principle test, Mike Huckabee tends to stand out. Not saying he is perfect, but someone to watch closely.
God tells us to live rightly, seek Him in all we do, and he will then lift up Godly leaders. If we don’t follow after God, we will get leaders who reflect where we are as people.
Let’s pray.
Qwerty,
I noticed a slight mistake in one of your posts, #22. I’m guessing you’re a logical supporter of science like myself so I think you’d like it pointed out. In this post you said that evolution is a proven scientific fact. However, science, by its very nature cannot prove anything. It uses inductive logic, which can prove that things are very probable, but not certain. Deductive logic, which has conclusions that follow with certainty, is in syllogistic form and does not contain any new information from the conditional statement to the conclusion. Science, however, follows the pattern of induction which is: hypothesis, observation, conclusion. For example, a scientist studies 98,000 normal stars that can develop sunspots. He concludes that all normal stars have the capability to develop sunspots. Despite the relative probability of this conclusion, he might be wrong. There might be some normal stars that can’t develop sunspots. So anyhow, even if there is a large amount of evidence supporting evolution (which many scientists are beginning to believe there isn’t) the theory of evolution could not be proven. Good scientists realize nothing in science can be proven. That’s what made Charles Darwin a good scientist. He fairly used all the information scientists had at the time and was humble enough to admit that if certain discoveries were made in science, his theory would be debunked. Finally, as to all scientists who doubt the validity of evolution being frauds, I have a list for you:
Nobel nominee chemist Henry F. Schaefer
James Tour of Rice University’s Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology
Fred Figworth, professor of cellular and molecular physiology at Yale Graduate School
The director of the Center for Computational Quantum Chemistry
A total of one hundred biologists, chemists, zoologists, physicists, anthropologists, molecular and cell biologists, bioengineers, organic chemists, geologists, astrophysicists, and other scientists with doctorates from such prestigious universities as Cambridge, Stanford, Cornell, Yale, Rutgers, Chicago, Princeton, Purdue, Duke, Michigan, Syracuse, Temple, and Cal-Berkeley
These scientists published a full-page magazine advertisement under the banner “A Scientific Dissent from Darwinism.” Their statement said: “We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account of the complexity of life.” They added that “careful examination” of the evidence for Darwin’s theory “should be encouraged.” See The Weekly Standard (October1, 2001)
So, are all these scientists stupid? Are they all liars? Then how did they get their degrees and positions? As you can see your conclusion makes little sense. I could make a list of credible scientists that are beginning to realize the shakiness of evolutionary theory that would go on and on, but I wouldn’t want to bore your poor brainwashed mind. Maybe, therefore, Mr. Huckabee is not a half-witted hick, but an individual on the very cutting edge of science. An edge that is rapidly leaving you and your kind behind.
“Answer if you dare.”
