Good morning . . . tragic anniversary: The 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Today’s quote is from a president: “I’ve noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born.”

Not sure who it is, but methinks it’s a great quote. makes perfect sense . . . .

    have a nice day! :)

  3. That sounds like Ronald Reagan.

    Tragic anniversary, indeed.

kBells wins! Ronald Reagan is correct. Please enjoy your virtual hot chocolate…

  6. Tragic bumper sticker combo on the same car (Paul Harvey mentioned this years ago):

“Save the Whales” & “Make Abortion Safe and Legal”.

Somewhere I have a button that I made that says “Former Fetus”. I should have dug it out today.

I remember hearing a story on the radio where an environmental group that was trying to stop fishing ended the interview by saying, by the way, the anniversary of Roe VS. Wade is cause for celebration. I guess that were thinking of all the fishermen who had been aborted.

I saw a car with a pro-abortion bumper-sticker next to one of those that said Coexist using the symbols of the five major world religions.

I guess pregnancy is taking co-existence a bit too far.

We wake up to the CBS morning news and today it was trumpeting the Fed’s 3/4 of a point drop in interest rates. They’re trying to head off a recession, according to what I heard in my drowsy state.

But I felt disquieted and wondered if they’re trying, yet again, to bail out society from feeling the pain of their choices. We used to say about our children that it was important for them to experience financial loss when the cost wasn’t as high, rather than learn the same hard lesson when they were older and much more was at stake.

I may be wrong, but it seems to me there is a lot at stake here. We live in a wealthy nation, but even wealth has its limits. What will it take to encourage, make, force, people to live within their means?

I’m willing to be wrong on this, am I missing something?

    #9 Michelle,

The only way people are successful, in anything including living within their means, is them having the many good character attributes required for success and avoiding the 3 that cause failure - fear, pride and ego.

The economy has been just about as good as it gets for the last nearly 5 years or so, yet there were those in the country, lets call them whack jobs, who claimed the economy was just the most horrible thing they have ever seen. They of course were wrong as usual and they will soon see what a horrible economy is all about no doubt - but they will not admit their error because they knew they were lying.

What is obvious to me is that even with the economy humming along in perfect balance and harmony for past 5 years, we had a segment of the population that could not avoid the tempting fear, pride and ego of owning too much stuff they could not afford. So, they will pay the price, as they always do, for their lack of character. Now, with the economy heading south quickly, the price extracted from them will be horrible. But, others who were innocent, will also suffer, as they too lose their jobs in this downturn.

Whack jobs should always be careful what they wish for because they wish for all the wrong things.

TALARI investors are of course happy as can be since thy have been short since Jan 2, but it was just a matter of time before the long bull run ran out of steam and faltered. With the socialist whack jobs is control of the economy for the last year, no one knows where the bottom will be but I for pray they will not act like their hero Jimmy Carter who brought the country to its financial and moral knees.

One thing we know for sure is that the whack jobs who claimed the economy was horrible all these years when it was nearly perfect, will not learn anything from a really horrible one that is possibly coming - they never do.

    Sawgunner,

Is Joshua a believer? A friend of yours? Sometimes it helps in composing letters to strangers to know these things but not essential. Thanks for the suggestion.

  12. I realize that I have been whiny lately, but I sure could use some prayers and positive thoughts directed my way. I am really down today and on top of that I have the “ick” that is going around. Zicam is pretty good stuff but tastes awful.

  13. Kim,
I probably have a different “ick” than yours, but I’m starting 12 days of Cipro. The doctor didn’t mention it, but the pharmacist told me I wasn’t supposed to have anything with calcium in it for 3 hours before or after taking it. I looked up further info online it said calcium as part of a meal was OK, just not having only Cipro and something with calcium.

So, let’s see. My usual breakfast is a glass of calcium-fortified OJ, my usual meds and a multivitamin which includes calcium, and either a bowl of cereal with milk or a couple Eggo waffles with a piece of cheddar cheese. So I had to buy some juice without calcium, skip my vitamin this morning (and try to remember to take it with lunch), and I picked up some apple cinnamon pop tarts.

But I am so tired of being tired. I have been dragging around for the last couple weeks, occasionally taking a Tylenol Sinus when the headaches got too bad. So if this stuff makes me feel human again, I’ll be happy.

  14. I feel your pain. I also am very lonely and confused right now. The “out with the old in with the new” that I did back at New Years has been in touch telling me how much he loves me and wants me in his life and I am like a burnt child who is scared of fire and confused. On top of that I am emotionally and physically exhausted and can’t seem to catch up.

  15. #13 “emotionally and physically exhausted and can’t seem to catch up”

Yep, sounds about how I’ve been feeling - except for the “lonely” part. There are times that being alone sounds very good, and I’d be happy probably to spend an entire week alone. But after that I’d be glad to see family and friends again.

“emotionally and physically exhausted” is not a good time to try to make any big decisions or changes. I figure if I can keep up with the dishes, not get too far behind on the laundry, and spend the 8 hours at work trying to keep the backlog from getting bigger (even if it doesn’t get smaller), I’ll make it until the medicine finally lets me recover some energy.

  16. Kim,

You already made the decision to have him out of your life, right? Has anything changed, other than that decision made you more desirable to him? I’d say if he comes back three years from now a new man, that’s one issue (though I don’t think you’re biblically free to marry him, but that’s a different issue). But coming back two weeks later saying he misses you? So what–he’s a grown man, and he can deal with it.

    Thompson bows out!!!

  18. Paula,
I’d love to see those videos you mentioned yesterday. I just read the message. I’m still packing up. Am 97% done. Your videos would be just the thing!

    Folks.
I am really exhausted. My poor sister and nieces are feeling their grief very heavily. When we were all together, we had somewhat of a reprieve of the loneliness of loss. Now that were back in routine, we feel it.

They have asked for prayer. They feel so downcast having lost husband and Daddy.

Me? I feel bone tired because they just left, I played catch-up and am grieving myself. Finally hit a brick wall and am taking it very easy for 2 days or so.

Please pray for my strengthening and recovery. I so want to feel good.

EYG, I’ve been praying for you and your sister and your nieces - your whole family - and will continue to do that.

Drill is being mildly amusing on yesterday’s thread. For another perspective on the complexities of life you might want to check it out, toward the end of the whirled views.

  21. Thank you MacMurray.
I will tell her that, today.
    Thank you from her–in advance

  22. 28 year old actor Heath Ledger is dead.

    Drugs are bad.

  23. Is anyone following the discussion on the Gumby thread? Lynn quoted a firebrand preacher type giving Obama guff for claiming to be a Christian while ignoring several things in the Bible. I pointed out that all Christians do that to one degree or another, because no matter if they’re liberal or evangelical, there are parts of the Bible that embarrass them. For evvies, it’s slavery. God quite clearly authorized his followers to own other human beings in the OT, on several occasions. Jesus never repealed any of these imprimaturs on slavery. Indeed, he never said a word against slavery, even though it was widespread when he walked the earth. The apostles, too, far from condemning or criticizing slavery, order slaves to obey their masters as if they’re obeying Jesus. The god of the Bible quite clearly approves of his followers owning other human beings. There aren’t many things in the Bible more clear. But Christians don’t like that, as it offends modern sensibilities, and so they either ignore the biblical teaching on slavery, or flat out deny it.

Well, Peter Leavitt (Solon) came on and had the decency to admit that yes, the Bible does approve of slavery. But he says slavery is still wrong. He says that not all of the Bible is the word of God, and we have to sort out the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. He also says this is the standard evangelical view of the Bible. Here’s the exact quote.

Most Evangelical theologians and philosopher’s view the Word and main themes of the Bible as essentialy true, while at the same time understanding that some parts of the Bible including slavery and stoning are time bound moral fossils.

This is news to me. I thought that the standard evangelical view of the Bible is that all of it is the God breathed, Holy Spirit inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of God. Yes, there may be some errors in translations, but the basic texts are the Word of God, in their entirety.

Is Peter Leavitt correct? Do most evangelical scholars these days reject parts of the Bible as “time bound moral fossils” that never came from the Holy Spirit?

    Here’s the thread.

Luckily I have a beautiful ball gown hanging in my closet from last year. At least I will be out ammong people and I made a few phone calls there will be people lthere that I know. I haven’t been in about 5 yrs to the one here.

I read that actor Heath Ledger just died due to drug related causes. So sad.

  26. It’s hard to be shocked that a guy who makes gay porn for a living would OD, huh?

  27. Heath Ledger is dead?
He just had a baby and split from the mother.
    Wow.
    Dead.

I guess I’m a little shocked and saddened.

I see more and more why death is an enemy.

    Greetings from Baton Rouge!

I’m sitting in the Barnes & Noble using their wifi at $3.99 for 2 hours (!), which is half the time I can get in Atlanta. Since there are no open wireless networks at the condo I’m staying in, I have no choice but to purchase the time.

I just wanted to pop in and say “hi” to everyone and let y’all know I’m still alive and kickin.

In regards to my voice, I still don’t have it. After multiple tests such as CT scans and MRI’s, they’ve determined that I have a rare medical condition, which I share with the writer of “Dilbert”. They are going to attempt speech therapy to see if that will work before resorting to botox in my vocal chords. I will never yell at a football game again, which is kinda sad because I could yell for the Vols like you wouldn’t believe. ;-)

In any event, I’m in Baton Rouge for a few more weeks. On Feb. 2nd I’m going to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Don’t worry - I’ll behave.

I voted early - before I left Atlanta. I’m not going to say whom I voted for, but it wasn’t the white guy. That narrows it down pretty well.

Sad to hear about Heath Ledger. It’s pretty uncool to falsely accuse a man of being in gay porn when he’s only been dead a few hours. Even if he was, that doesn’t make him any less loved by his family. Sometimes I wonder about the viciousness of people…

Well, I’m gonna go check some blogs out and visit some news site.

    Later…

Mumsee: Thanks for the steer back. I posted on yesterday’s Whirled Views by mistake, although it fit what was being talked about. Well, sort of fit it. Okay, slightly. All right, all right. Hardly at all. Still, I had fun writing it. Most of it actually happened.

It is wierd that today’s Whirled Views never showed up on the major thread lists on the WOW main page . . . I always assume that the latest Whirled Views there is the one with the newest date. Oh well. Shows how attentive to detail I am.

  30. Hi Anlir!

    We’ve been missing you.

I’m sorry to hear about your voice. I have gotten laryngitis for up to three weeks, so I have some ground to sympathize.

How long has it been since you’ve been able to speak?

I hope and pray that speech therapy works.
    Do take care.

  31. Kim and Pauline, I can relate to your described feelings. So tired. God help us! And, I know he will.

    Kim,
I’m so glad you get to wear your ball gown! Do it all the way: up-do, great jewelry, mani/pedi, glass slippers… How often does one get to be Cinderella?
    Enjoy that.
We’ll hope to hear about it.

    EYG,

Hi! It’s good to see you on here! :-)

I haven’t been able to speak since last July. I had what I thought was a bad cold and lost my voice. The prime suspect was allergies at first, but it’s been one thing after another since. After many expensive tests and drugs, the specialist said I had a viral infection which paralyzed half of my vocal chords.

    Kim,

Your going to a Mardi Gras ball? Is it in New Orleans?

  33. 33. Gravatar by llama 01.22.08 at 10:00 pm

    Anlir,

They say in order to get what you want, the best thing to do is give up wanting it so much. Next thing you know - poof - what you want pops out of nowhere.

I’m not going to say anything to anyone tomorrow just to protest your plight.

Not talking would be easier on many folks I would bet than say - not blogging :-)

  34. 34. Gravatar by llama 01.22.08 at 10:03 pm

    Oh yea Anlir,

If you are contagious, you can stay at my place in AZ until my lady llamas can’t ogle. It would prove there is a God that answers prayers :-)

  35. Anlir, are you having much trouble dealing with the death of the star of Brokeback Mountain?

  36. Oh, I just saw your note about Ledger. Yes, Brokeback Mountain most certainly was gay porn. I’m not glad he’s dead, but I’m hardly surprised that a gay porn star comes to an untimely end.

But then again, who would’ve thought that Suzanne Pleshette would go before Britney?

  37. 37. Gravatar by llama 01.22.08 at 10:14 pm

Sorry, I never heard of Heath Ledger before his death but I don’t see any gay porn flicks or any flicks for that matter. Why would folks on a Christian bog know about a drug abusing, gay porn star? Was he really a gay porn star? Fox said he just finished the new Batman movie. Are Batman and Robin gay? Say it ain’t so!

Fox says he was only 28, married with a daughter, an Emmy nominee and the next Hollywood leading man. I didn’t even know they gave out Emmy’s for gay porn flicks? No wonder no one watches the Emmy’s anymore. He doesn’t sound gay to me but after Rock Hudson…..

Sounds like someone is bearing false witness about this poor man to me.

  38. 38. Gravatar by Anlir 01.22.08 at 10:20 pm

    Llama,

Thanks for the offer, but I’m not contagious.

Well, my 2 hours of time is almost up.

So adios everyone. I don’t know when I will be back. It depends on when I feel like blowing another $3.95. I have priorities, like buying the New York Times every day so I can keep up with what’s happening in the world. ;-)

  39. 39. Gravatar by llama 01.22.08 at 10:28 pm

Oh, Ledger was in Brokeback Mountain. That doesn’t make him a gay porn star. It just makes him a typical whack job liberal Hollywood type. Nothing weird about that, he was in the company of millions.

  40. Sounds like someone is bearing false witness about this poor man to me.

You might want to get your hearing aid repaired.

And have the doc look at your funny bone while you’re there. I think it’s broken.

Actually, I think you were probably born without one.

    Your mileage may vary.

  41. Oh, Ledger was in Brokeback Mountain. That doesn’t make him a gay porn star.

So starring in a gay porn flick doesn’t make you a gay porn star?

    Love that evvie logic!
