Rants & Raves 3.28
Here it is, Rants! & Raves!, your weekly chance to sound off. Remember the rules:
1. A Rave! is something that happened during the past week that you’re tickled about and is signified by the word “Rave!” and/or an appropriately happy emoticon.
2 A Rant! is something that happened during the past week that you’re steamed about and is signified by the word “Rant!” and/or an appropriately unhappy emoticon.
3. You may Rant! about something a person said, did or wrote, but you may not Rant! about generally disliking a person.
Have at it!

My parts came in for the threading jig I’m making….
It’s going to be a fun weekend!
I’ve got to mow the weeds and clean house.
Michelle, any correlation between your rant and rave?
Rant - the radio blurb announcing Senator Casey’s endorsement of Obama described Casey as pro-life - makes me sick.
Unfortunately you cannot have the first without the second, as the Bee Movie taught me.
Rave: Hubbie’s been home all day.
Rant: He’s been hogging my computer.
Cheryl - About your taxes - You mentioned in another thread that you may have to borrow money to pay your taxes. (That would certainly earn a rant.)
My husband has a system for paying non-monthly bills that come up quarterly or semi-annually (such as car insurance). He divides the costs of these among the 12 months, & makes sure he puts the proper amount away in the bank, so the money will be available when needed.
Would this work for you?
Karen:
No, it wouldn’t, because I’m not splurging on anything. I have a budgeted income amount I need to earn monthly, but my income varies enough that last year I earned anywhere from 10% to 250% of that amount in a given month (and ended the year 10% below budget). February was a great month (nearly 200% of budget), but January and March were/are both very low. Basically the problem was I went into some debt last year preparing for foster kids and then only got kids for a month. I repaid the debt, but now need time to build up some surplus again. And I need to rent out the “kids’” bedroom again, now that it seems that foster care is simply not going to keep that room in use. (I wasn’t doing foster care for the money, or I wouldn’t have done it. But I did think I’d keep kids half the time or more, which would have kept me from losing money by not renting out the bedroom, and that hasn’t proven to be the case.)
If I can get a couple good months in a row and rebuild surplus, I’ll be OK. But with a wildly erratic income, a monthly budget is impossible; keeping expenses as low as possible and tracking down as much work as I can get is all I can do. But right now I’m restructuring a bit to do more editing for individuals, and that is a little tougher because companies send a book when they say they will, and in my experience individuals do not.
Well, that’s off topic. So,
Rave:
Visiting our friends in NC over Easter, attending their worship service, and their daughter’s birthday at the Young Life camp near them.
Rant:
All of us getting sick the last day, leaving later than we wanted, and not getting home until 3 am Thursday.
Rave: It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood and I finished cleaning the two fifty gallon aquariums.
Rant: I have the responsibility of turning the eggs in the incubator during son’s absence and evidently one chick died and the egg cracked and now rotted egg from two weeks of incubation is permeating my house (incubator is in the dining room).
Mumsee,
My sympathy on the rotten egg. My fifth grade teacher was into nutty science experiments, and letting us discover the smell of rotten eggs was one of them. I think it was actually sulfur he used, but he told us the smell was that of rotten eggs, and it was memorable.
Rant: Wal Mart taking money from an injured woman just because they can.
SteveG,
You may want to read the fine print of your employer’s health insurance policy, if you have one. I bet it says the same thing. It may seem heartless in this one isolated incident, but multiply it by even one percent of employees and dependents.
I’m sure you already boycott them, so you’ve voted with your wallet, right?
