Good morning!
Today’s quote is from a culinary expert: “The only time to eat diet food is while you’re waiting for the steak to cook.”

Today’s quote comes from Julia Child
BTW Good Morning Shipmate Lynn. Fair winds and following seas as you travel life’s journey
Well, I would have said Julia Child at first, but now I’m going to try Graham Kerr.
Paula Dean?
Tonight’s Dateline on NBC may be worth checking out. It’s about the Taylor University students who were in a horrible accident and how Laura Van Ryn’s and Whitney Cerak’s identities were mistaken. For weeks the Van Ryns cared for Whitney until she healed enough to be able to identify herself as a Cerak. I watched their interviews on the Today show both this morning and yesterday. Both families do a fantastic job of giving testimony to the graciousness of God in the middle of such trauma.
Has anyone seen today’s report on what the chances are for massive solar storms and or potential overbearing charged electrons lurking overhead?
I figure you cannot be too careful with global warming the way it is so I got out my trusty aluminum foil pyramid shaped hat this morning just in case. I’ve only have to use this protection during the 80’s Ice age scare and the Y2K frenzy. Both times it averted sure catastrophe and I have complete faith it will take the pipsqueak of a global warming problem to its knees.
Llama, I’ve tried to do my part.
Llama: Well, yesterday on Whirled Views, I tried to prevent such a disaster by convincing KBells to keep blogging.
But I exaggerated a bit about the size of incoming solar POSITIVE charges when I said they were as big as Greyhound buses. I am pretty sure that positive charges are actually only about the size of apples (and smell somewhat fruity when they hit the ground and bust - don’t eat them, either).
Anyway, a tinfoil hat will help some but the best protection is to think really positive thoughts; if you remember your electricity theory, like charges always repel.
So if you think really positive thoughts, the postitive charges will be hopefully deflected and maybe will even strike your neighbor who is thinking negative thoughts about your dog who is stealing his chickens.
Not to toot my own horn, but I am pretty knowledgeable about electricity, so if anyone here needs any electrical advice I would be happy to give it free.
I even once wired (all by myself) a barn I was building. It had over 45 fixtures, lights, electrical switches - and I did every one of them myself.
Unfortunately, the barn burned down just after completion, in fact right after I turned the power on to it, so I never got to enjoy the fruits of my labor, so to speak.
The fire marshal who came and poked through the smoldering remains of the barn was astonished. He said that he had never seen anything like it - that it looked liked the fire had simultaneously started in over 45 places at one time. Pretty wierd and inexplicable.
Anyway, anyone here have any questions about electricity you need quick approximate answers to?
Yes, Drill, I have a question. I have been using 100 watt bulbs in my apartment for decades. I needed a repair in my bathroom light fixture and was told that the socket was made for 60 watt bulbs. Is that true? Because I’ve been using 100s all over and nothing has ever happened. Shouldn’t I have burned by now?
I can answer that NJLAWYER. It is never a good idea to exceed the rated wattage on an incandescent light fixture. If you use a higher wattage bulb, the fixture draws more current. When you do this, the dielectric strength of the insulator breaks down. This can cause electrical shorts and may even cause a fire.
Drill:
What is the best way to stick a screwdriver into an electric outlet without suffering any ill effects? (The outlet is properly grounded.)
NJL: Based on what you state, you need to reduce the total number of bulbs. 100 bulbs are just WAY too many bulbs. I would hate to see your power bill.
I am not sure about a manufacturer of light bulbs with the corporate name of Watt - is that an American manufacturer? As long as it is a reputable company, Watt bulbs are probably as good as any, though.
GE bulbs usually work pretty well, except when they explode.
To be honest, I have never seen a bathroom fixture that needs 60 bulbs, whether made by Watt or GE or anybody else. You might want to consider a smaller light fixture.
Our bathroom lights stopped working a long time ago; so we have been using flashlights to see our way around in the bathroom for about 15 years. That works pretty well except it is kind of hard to take a shower while holding a flashlight.
I hope this helps.
Janie: Get your neighbor to do it after telling him the main power is shut off.
It does not. But it made me laugh.
Julia Child is correct! Joe B. wins another mug of stiff, slow-cooked electric-urn coffee…
~~@)
Hey, Joe, with the fair winds and following seas you make it sound like I’m going somewhere? Am I fired and don’t know it?
Drill, you crack me up.
I like to test 9v batteries with the tip of my tongue.
Some of us look better with just the light of a flashlight when looking into a mirror.
Travis Birkenstock: That is okay but make sure you don’t overdo it and accidentally swallow the battery, or even worse an entire package of them.
Especially just before you go through a metal detector at the airport. The security people have no understanding of little mishaps like that. There is nary a single drop of the milk of human kindness in them, I can assure you, from bitter experience.
No Lynn, you are not going anywhere. SD would not be the same if you and your family left. I might go somewhere. It is 90 degrees right now in Uvalde Texas. I am ready to say adios to the buckeyes up here in Ohio and high tail it back home. Its been a terrible winter up here. Plus is is snowing today. Brrrrr!
Speaking of electricity Drill. My favorite electrically related commercial is the one where the guy is flipping a switch but nothing happens while he is talking to his wife in another room asking her if she what that switch he is flipping goes to.
A few houses down the street a neighbors garage door goes up and down every time he flips the switch - smashing the poor lady’s car caught underneath the ‘It’s Alive’ door.
I love the commercial but I can’t remembwe what it is trying to sell - weird.
It’s one of those “life comes at you fast” insurance commercials. Can’t remember what kind of insurance, though.
Didja ever notice how light the commenting is on Fridays. Could it be that while we were bloggin and commentin the work we should have been doing M-Th has caught up with us so now we are feverishly trying to catch up on it before we leave for the weekend?
Just wonderin
Work? Now why does that ring a bell?….
Oh man! I knew I was forgetting something!
I believe the “Life comes at you fast” commercials are for Nationwide.
Metanoia, you reminded me that we used to get the “Friday afternoons” in the Astrotopography (I almost forgot how to spell that.) Branch. We still got some work done, but we were punchy; I suppose, with anticipation.
Carol was kind of kooky anyhow. A great secretary but kooky.
My son also liked to test 9v batteries with his tongue. That boy never was quite right in the head.
