  1. Pretty funny. I saw Amanda Veith’s name in the credits. She any relation to Gene Veith?

  2. A parody of the way Hispanic laborers are selected for work. I haven’t seen it here, but in Annandale, Va., the workers would hang around 7-11 (The Store), and wait for someone to hire them for day labor.
It says the job market for professionals will be poor in 2009, but that may not be true. It’s neat the way they have a hispanic guy in a small truck to haul the accountants & computer programers away to their day job.

It reminds me of the first job I went looking for when I graduated from high school. I went to the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co. (Now WESTVACO, I think). I sat in a room with a bunch of guys. Occasionally someone would poke his head out and say, “elctricians”, or “plumbers”, or whatever. I wasn’t any of those things. I saw a guy come in wearing a suit. He stepped inside, then came back out and sat down with the rest of us. In less than five minutes, someone came out and said, “Mr. Jones”. He got up and went inside. I’ve always remembered that as a lesson of what a college education can do.

I joined the Air Force in August. One of the best things I did in my life.

  3. BTW, that was quite a production to be made for YouTube.

  4. Well that’s the way’s it’s done here at the local Home Depot…

  5. They even built them a shelter…

At one time in the USA, most of the day labor was done by young folks in their late teens early 20s. I recall reading about a former House speaker who “put himself thru college” as a janitor at his university. Bet that wont ever happen again in this country. (Unionized custodians lobbying for a “livable wage”)
All the scut work and day labor tasks we would have given to all those aborted babies had they been allowed to grow up.
