Living love
The Kite Runner is Afghan American author Khaled Hasseini’s story of two boys growing up in
Amir is a writer of stories, introspective, and not brave. Hassan is illiterate, handy with a slingshot, fiercely loyal, and courageous. Amir watches, frozen, from a hiding place while three future Taliban teenage bullies have their way with Hassan in a cave. Unable to live with his guilt, Amir later connives to have Hassan banished from his father’s estate. Though Hassan knows all this, he continues to show undying love to his friend — even reaffirming his commitment in a letter written to the now California-based Afghan writer.
1 Corinthians 13 says that “love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things; love never ends.” And I will tell you that I can hear that preached from the pulpit a hundred times, with fortissimo, and it will not have nearly the impact on me that one human incarnation of the teaching has. Oh, what power would be unleashed on the world if we only lived God’s Word!

I heard again this morning, Ravi Zacharias tell the story of the woman who took in the widow and children of her ex-husband who had abandoned her for his Japanese house girl. I am always touched by that story and never able to determine if I could love enough to do the same. My personal mission statement is “To show the love and grace of God to everyone I meet.” I wish I could live it out. blessings.
Mommy - There is a similar story line in Hasseini’s book, “A Thousand Splendid Suns” with the difference being that the woman who took in the second wife and child wasn’t a believer.
My personal mission statement is “To show the love and grace of God to everyone I meet.”
Yeah, right. Sure it is.
I wish I could live it out.
Maybe you could start by showing a little respect to people you interact with on the internet.
Baby steps.
NT - 3
Your comment was uncalled for - Mommy, is striving for something better, as she said:
Some people keep trying, and then their is you, who throw stones at those who keep moving forward!
Thanks, Vic!
Way to go NT-3!
NT….. don’t you have something better to do than criticize others?
I mean I have a yard to rake …a bathroom to clean … stuff to do.
Surely there is more meaning to your life than to get on WOW and knock those who don’t agree with you….
after all isn’t that what you say of them….baby steps?
NT….. don’t you have something better to do than criticize others?
Of course I do. What a silly question. As if that’s all I do on here.
I mean I have a yard to rake …a bathroom to clean … stuff to do.
No yard to rake, as I live in an apartment. I have a maid service that keeps the house tidy.
Surely there is more meaning to your life than to get on WOW and knock those who don’t agree with you….
Of course there is. What a silly statement. I make $300-400 a day playing poker, and I have a great many friends and interests. I have quite a full life.
Funny thing, though. A while back, when “Mommmy” was rudely hassling me about reading at Barnes & Noble, even going so far as to completely misrepresenting a newspaper article about the topic, where the president of B&N was quoted as saying that people are free to read as much as they want at their stores. She claimed that the article said B&N is removing chairs from stores to discourage people from reading. In other words, the exact opposite of what the article said. She did that to make me look bad. And the weird thing is, she’s on here bearing false witness against her neighbor, and you didn’t say a word about it.
NT… I have way too much to do to catch every word that is said here on this blog ( I only read THIS blog b/c of Andree)… I had no idea of the incident of “MOMMY” “bearing false witness against you”…but if she did then she has to answer for it not you. You are to be responsible for you and you alone.
My point is this… You tell others they should be tolerant but you lack tolerance.
If you are so against Christians and their beliefs go blog somewhere else… no one is forcing you to read about Christianity…or even to read World Magazine.
Your comments in the past about Andree as well as many others have been “intolerant” but you want and expect others …especially Christians.. to be tolerant of and/or the things you believe in.
I have always wondered why you have chosen WORLD
Magazine to read and blog….
My husband has many aquaintances who play poker for a living and none of them would be interested in blogging let alone reading WORLD.
What’s your interest here?
That’s hilarious!
Blunt criticism is NOT intolerance. I’ve never expressed “intolerance” toward anyone on here. And I’ve never rebuked anyone for being “intolerant” toward me. I don’t care what they think of me. But I do get mad, and express myself, when they claim I’m an atheist, or a liberal, or an evangelical, etc., when I’m none of those things and have never said anything that could reasonbly construed to imply any such thing. So, yeah, I don’t like it when people lie about me and accuse me of believing things I don’t.
But that’s hardly “intolerance”.
You really should avail yourself of a good online dictionary if you’re going to comment.
You did not answer the question I asked of you.
WHY WORLD ?
Whats you interest here?
No, I generally don’t answer questions from rude interlocutors. Especially when it’s none of their business.
NT - 8
Whatever, Vic!
We are children of God, bioluminescent creatures, briefly emitting intense flashes of brilliance to attract those lost in the abyss, living a life otherwise utterly dark and without God.
Whatever it is that attracts the atheists, agnostics, etc., to WOW we are to be thankful, for we may be assured they will be used of God as instruments to sharpen our own knowledge and understanding of Him.
Thanking God you are here, NT and Reg.
“Oh, what power would be unleashed on the world if we only lived God’s Word!”
After all this time, all the posts you have read and then the ….. WHATEVER
My point is well made!
We can live God’s Word, but there will be multitudes who will turn their back. We can only look to the “narrow road” and the “wide road” that gives us our answer.
NT - Mommy does not seem to be the type of person to intentionally bear false witness. Perhaps she was merely mistaken?
NT
Your grudge against Mommy is hurting you, not her.
Sorry, Karen. I evidently didn’t get the copy of the 10 Commandments Updated For The 21st Century. So the Commandment is now “Thou shalt not intentionally bear false witness against thy neighbor”?
So it’s OK to falsely accuse someone of hurting a business by completely perverting what a news article said, as long as that’s what you sorta think you read several months back?
So if your neighbor tells you that so and so is a cheap floozy, it’s OK for you to tell others that she’s a cheap floozy, even if she’s not, because you were telling the truth as you understood it?
Your grudge against Mommy is hurting you, not her.
No, it isn’t.
You wouldn’t bring it up if it wasn’t NT-
This place reminds me of the Romans and their entertainment. Congratulations.
Really?
Be specific, if you CAN!
