Oh, she may now be officially dead in the water. That makes her look weak, and I’m not sure she was really respected before Iowa (e.g., she is constantly referred to as “Hillary” rather than “Senator Clinton”; I don’t personally like her politics, but that is just disrespectful, imho).
I think the “Hillary” moniker is because you can refer to two people as “Clinton” and people like to be able to use a one-word name.
She’s been a little whiny (spelling?), and Bill is not helping her in this.
I think this may be along the same lines as Howard Dean’s downfall last year.
TJ brings up an interesting point. It’s interesting how she is referred to as “Hillary” rather than “Senator”. Purely anecdotal - at least as far as I can tell - but still, interesting.
Actually, her yard signs read “Hillary” so I’m not sure it’s disrespectful to refer to her as such.
Also, we could refer to her as Mrs. Clinton, I suppose!
If I had to guess, Hillary is probably going through menopause, which doesn’t help. Her emotions about being President are all about HER, not this country. She isn’t able to hold it together, …. everyone can see it.
As far as the reference to ‘Hillary’- most people refer to Obama, his last name, and many do the same with Romney. I find nothing strange about this.
If I had to guess, Hillary is probably going through menopause, which doesn’t help.
Victoria, I LOVE this! A man could never have said it.
Grr, I wrote a savvy, relevant, personal response, and then got that annoying “must be logged in to post” and my message was lost.
All right, take a deep breath and try again.
First, I can’t see video, so I didn’t see the context here. Did someone say something mean? I think many, maybe even most, women have had times when they couldn’t keep back the tears, even in public, even when the tears were embarrassing. That might actually be an argument for men as presidents, because indeed we can’t have a president crying in a meeting with another world leader.
(In my original post I gave three examples of times I’ve cried at work, and couldn’t make myself not cry–all of them in my twenties, but then, it was in my twenties that I worked face-to-face with the public. And I’m a pretty logical, stiff-upper-lip woman. But sorry, you missed it.)
So Hillary “teared up” in New Hampshire after Obama “tore her up” in Iowa?
Cheryl D.,
The back arrow doesn’t recreate your post?
And, no, nothing mean was said. It was a genuine question about how she does it all–referring to the campaign. She got emotional talking about how hard it was, how tired she was.
I’m thinking if she’s tired now, she’s truly not ready to be President.

LOL, I know, that’s why I took the initiative and saved you guys, from the dreaded “M” word. You owe me one!
I just read that the Clinton camp is bringing in Carville and Begala from her husband’s campaign days. They are nasty men. I don’t think this will help.
Isn’t Hillary too old to be in menopause? Seriously, crying in and of itself is not a bad thing, it depends what you cry about, but she can’t even conceive of the idea that someone else might become the candidate, that people don’t want her socialism. When did she get the idea that she’s the “mother” of the country?
NJL
I don’t know if she’s to old or not, maybe it lasted much longer for Hillary, or maybe she’s just late. I have no idea. I wonder how she would react in the OVAL office? Oh, lets not go there….:)
Hillary Clinton: ….so, I’m gonna do everything I can!
Justus331: Oh….right………like raise my stinkin taxes to an astounding level BEFORE President Reagan cut taxes across the board?…..like, appoint scandalous, liberal judges that will NOT judge along the lines of our US constitution? ……..like have the federal government get deeper into my private life than it already is?
No thanks, Hill. Just stay away from me and my fellow Americans! Clinton tears up… yea, right.
more like crocodile tears.
Cameron, no, the back arrow didn’t help. And then when I hit “paste” just in case, something else was on my clipboard from earlier.
Yep, the context says this isn’t good at all. She probably buried herself.
Hillary isn’t necessarily too old for menopause. She’s 59 or 60, right? I once had a whole circle of friends her precise age, if I recall correctly, and they’ll all turn 60 this year. My mom had surgery, never got into true menopause, but she had surgery at 52 and said it was several years later that she had “symptoms” that she thought would probably have been menopausal had she still been able to have menopause. (I’m assuming that means she still had her ovaries.)
Cheryl, when you have a particularly fine post, copy it into your paste function before you hit post. Then if you have to reconnect, you can just dump it in.
As you know, Victoria, I do NOT want to go to the oval office with Hillary! Whether she’s in menopause or not. I always thought the average age was 51, which is why I thought she was “finished.” (couldn’t resist!) She’s 60 or close to it. What Democrats will never understand is that we don’t need the government to do everything for us, and she’s a true proponent of that. Justus331, the mere thought of Hillary appointing a Supreme Court justice — well, that would make me cry! This can NOT happen.
Well. I’m certainly disrespectful of Hillary most days, but this is a new side of her I haven’t seen before. My impression of her has been that she’s always a strident harridan who is always on the attack.
I’m not sure this makes her look weak so much as human.
MIM,
That’s why she did it. I have no doubt it was planned.
Better her than me. I’ll be cryin’ if she gets back in the Oval Office.
NJL - 15
“…..the mere thought of Hillary appointing a Supreme Court justice — well, that would make me cry! This can NOT happen.”……
That would make me cry too.
MIM 16)– puh-leeze!!!
Yes, MIM, but then there’s Shrill Hill, and she can’t hide Shrill Hill.
Wah!
If I could give one piece of advice to a young professional woman it would be “Never cry at Work. Get mad, cuss somebody out, throw something, but don’t cry.“ Can you see a man being asked this question? What a wimp. Grow up Hillary.
throw something????
Babies throw things.
Keeping cool and keeping your voice low really works. Someone who refuses to hear a shout will strain to hear a whisper.
If the other person is yelling and cussing, simply turn and walk away.
Rdean, I don’t’ recommend the throwing, but it is better than crying.
I’m guessing you’ve never been involved in a live TV broadcast. “Keeping your voice low” won’t work when you have half a second to get someone’s attention.
Ya hear what Scarborough said when they were discussing Bill Clinton’s remark that he couldn’t “make her younger, make her male, or make her taller”?
“You could make her single”.
Yep. I busted out laughing on that one…

YOU WRITE:……”If I could give one piece of advice to a young professional woman it would be “Never cry at Work. Get mad, cuss somebody out, throw something, but don’t cry.“ Can you see a man being asked this question? What a wimp. Grow up Hillary.”
Kbells, where we live, the employee would be fired on the spot for throwing something, other than a wad of paper. As far as ‘cussing’ the person would be fired. People don’t have the right to throw ‘temper tantrums’ in the work place, whether they are professionals, secretaries, sales people, etc. When people have come to the point where they “cuss somebody out” they are completely out of control. I wouldn’t trust them.
I saw this happen in an a department store not all that long ago, the person was fired within 20 minutes. The shoppers, including myself fled, we didn’t know how much anger this person had-
HR Clinton is the hardest working politician on the campaign trail, and perhaps one of the brightest. She has put up with a lot of garbage over the year and mostly retained her cool. To have to stand by and watch yet another charismatic man steal the rug out from underneath her has got to be galling beyond belief.
I do have to say that if she were a Republican, I’d probably vote for Senator Clinton for president. As it is, I’ll stand by and watch it all implode. I just wish there was a Republican as hard working work and knowledgeable as she is.
re 28
Victoria, Victoria … here’s hoping you can one day recognize a little hyperbole for what it is.
If you reply, please be sure to use boldface.
RR Thank you.
However, apparently, y’all never worked with “creatives”. I’ve seen people do all those things and then get promoted. Again I don’t recommend them, but they happen.
Kbells,
I studied art, I designed, painted etc., that doesn’t mean one can “cuss someone out”-
We have a good friend who is one of the most talented, successful photographers in the country, with clients who are located in the US and those abroad. This person is very even tempered, and good natured. Creative doesn’t mean volatile.
I’d say cussing people out or throwing things is every bit as unprofessional as crying–or more so. And more sinful, and less feminine.
Looks like I need to tell my crying-at-work stories (short version).
Age 18. First job, McDonald’s. Woke up very sick. Boss said I had to come in anyway or be suspended for a week without pay. (I called in three hours before my shift, employee manual mandated two hours. I’d worked there eight months and this was my first time calling in sick.) Went to work, but combination of great pain and great disillusionment with boss made it hard to fight back the tears. Every time I turned my back on a customer to fill an order, I cried, and then fought the tears back before I turned back around.
20, second job, drug store. PMS. Supervisor yelled at me. Saw me again minutes later, and yelled at me again over the same thing–not her usual style. I quickly went on break to run in the bathroom and cry.
about 25, college student, working at dormitory desk over break, very overworked, very little sleep, possibly PMS also. (Doing a correspondence course and working two jobs.) Remembered suddenly that I’d forgotten an appointment–a job interview–and that I might end up unemployed for the spring semester. Putting myself through college by working 20-plus hours during semester, 40-60 over every break. Chose to work on campus, since I didn’t have a car and didn’t want to walk Chicago streets in winter weather. Unemployment not good. Couldn’t stop tears. Quickly called professor friend at her office, as I knew that was the quickest way to get myself under control. Male resident supervisor, stopping by desk a minute later, not at all sympathetic–but he showed no hint he wanted to talk to me, stopping and talking with other students instead, and then yelling at me for using the phone on the clock.
I’m a rather rational, not super emotional person, but sometimes women cry. And sometimes we can’t help it. I doubt seriously that Hillary broke down on purpose–she’s smart enough to know that isn’t presidential. She’s smart enough that she might have felt her chances at being president were crumbling right then and there with her tears. But she’s also a woman, and she couldn’t stop those stupid tears.
Cheryl,
There is a very BIG difference between your crying as an 18 year old teen, a 20 and 25 year old young woman and good ole Hillary Clinton who wants to sit in the Oval office-
I don’t trust the Clinton’s, I believe they would use almost any ‘dramatic moment’ to gain sympathy-
Better to find find out now than have the President of Iran, Putin, or Kim Jung Ill bring her to tears over something even more trivial like war or something
We knew she was weak when she couldn’t get rid of Bill or even toss him out for a spell, after all his womanizing and the embarrassment she had to swallow.
Actually, I think that she is just very disappointed that Obama couldn’t wait his turn to be president like her husband did in 1988 (when he decided it wasn’t his turn yet). She worked hard for years to fool the American public an pull this off and she is naturally upset that she is losing and there is nothing she can do about it except cry.
#33 Cheryl D
Didja hear about the Micky D’s manager who did a strip search on a young gal employee? The mgr said a cop phoned in and asked that the employee be searched.
The mind just boggles at the lawsuit from that one
Victoria,
In my earlier posts I had mentioned that I was young. But I think PMS is a legitimate issue, and though I haven’t been there, menopause probably is too. I honestly think I might still cry in some or all of these scenarios. I am not a big crier, but I have a really hard time fighting tears when they come.
But emotional volatility doesn’t make presidents. I doubt she’d do it “on purpose,” because it doesn’t make her look good. Yes, she looks more “human.” But people don’t look good crying, and crying people don’t look like good leadership material. Women may “understand”–I myself understand–but I want a president to be strong. And so does the rest of America, I think. She wouldn’t gain any votes by crying–the people whose sympathy she got would be voting for her anyway. And she lost a whole lot of people who were trying to convince themselves that she’d be a strong leader even as a woman. And to say she’s crying because running for office is too much for her? Negative sympathy votes.
(And yes, you feminists out there,
I do believe that a woman can be a good leader, in certain settings. I believe Margaret Thatcher was a very good leader. But as a rule, “leader of the free world” really is a task better suited to a man. In America at least, a woman who aims for that role almost cannot help but be shrill. We aren’t as quiet and composed as the British.)
And part of this issue with “she’s losing” os that it’s WAY too early to tell. A real leader doesn’t give up after the first round goes badly. I hope she’s losing, and I hope she loses tonight. But it’s simply way too early to tell.
One more time, Victoria. I don’t recommend or condone it, but it happens. Especially in a high-pressure Live broadcast.
Kbells,
I don’t think listing my experience, what I do, where I’ve been will make any difference to you.
If you believe that “cussing another person out” would work where I live, you would probably be surprised as to the outcome. If the ’screamer with foul language’ didn’t quite down IMMEDIATELY, the police would be called, as most people in the area would have taken off, out the door, down the hall not knowing how bad this could turn out.
“If you believe that “cussing another person out” would work where I live,”
Now where did I say that?
Are you trying to make me cuss you out and throw something?
You didn’t say it, I said it in response to your post. I should not have put quote marks up, I’m sorry.
If you are so short tempered that you feel like cussing or throwing something go ahead, glad this is the internet, not an office, or anywhere else.
“I don’t think listing my experience, what I do, where I’ve been will make any difference to you.”
I was thinking the same thing about you. Last part of post 41 was a joke.
Kbells - 43
Yeah, I bet it was a joke…..whatever!
Let me start all over. If I could give one piece of advice to a young professional woman it would be “Never cry at Work. Suck it up, fix your make up, call your mother, but don’t cry.“ Is that any better?
Actually I feel as though I’ve finally arrived. I’ve been bolded at by Victoria.
OK, I couldn’t watch the video till I got home.
Now, I’m 100% certain that, not only did she cry on purpose, but the question was a plant.
My new bumper sticker:
Hillary, because it’s her @^#%$ turn!!!
Latest numbers on DRUDGE
OBAMA 37; CLINTON 35; EDWARDS 17; RICHARDSON 4…
MCCAIN 38; ROMNEY 29; HUCKABEE 11; PAUL 6; GIULIANI 8; THOMPSON 1…
I don’t think Hillary cried due to menopause. Like NJL, I think she’s too old for that.
And KBells - As I said to TL in another thread, “Save your breath.”
Would you like me to hand you items for throwing?
Menopausal?
On Purpose?
Dean like meltdown?
Some of you are far too amusing. Perhaps she gets emotional about the service she thinks she can offer the country. Perhaps she took JFK’s words to heart. Clinton would not be my first choice but the woman deserves more respect than she gets.
The socialist charge from some of you is also amusing. Obviously, you haven’t examine her platform closely. Of the front-running Democrats, she is by far the most right wing or centrist. Kucininch is a socialist. Edwards is a left wing populist and Obama is left of center. If socialism scares you and you realize the Democrats will probably win in Novemeber, you should cross party lines and vote for Hilary in the primary.
HRW, I can’t speak for the others; I’m not voting Democratic and thus not examining the candidates. But Hillary is very liberal with strong socialist leanings. (She is in favor of the convention for rights of a child, and in favor of nationalized health care, etc.)
I find it interesting how many men such as Bill Kristol on FOX news last night think Hillary shed crocodile tears. Understandable when Hillary comes across so often as disingenuous. But I would disagree in this case. I think the tears were very much real and involuntary on Hillary’s part. Women, more than men, can relate to that experience when emotion or plain physical exhaustion just takes over and the voice starts to catch and the tears just begin to flow uncontrollably. Not a characteristic suitable for a president.
This is my favorite thread in a long time — at least the posts about menopause and crying at work. I’ve cried at work, too. Once when I worked at a library I missed a deadline for a big grant and started bawling my head off. Sometimes I cry when you guys are mean to me. (Just kidding!
)
46. If that’s true, manipulative tears are even worse than tears of weakness. You’re telling the men around you that you can’t compete as an equal.
48. No thanks, VS, it not worth losing a good stapler over.
But Hillary is very liberal with strong socialist leanings. (She is in favor of the convention for rights of a child, and in favor of nationalized health care, etc.)
She is in favour of the universal provision of health care insurance, that is, each person should have through one means or an other, access to private health insurance. This is quite different from universal health care. Kucininch offers the latter, while Edwards and Obama have plans that stand somewhat in the middle. In foreign policy, she is by far the biggest hawk in the Democrat field.
Michelle - Hilary is a miserable, vicious human being.
That, of course, isn’t a disqualification for office in and of itself. And were she a solid Republican and the party’s nominee, I’d end up voting for her (my basic voting test is “who is the most likely to most consistently vote, or govern, the closest to what I would want done”).
But her personal nastiness is enough to drain me of any sympathy for her when her house of cards starts to collapse.
KRM,
Isn’t that the truth.
When she started her cry baby routine, I thought “now here she is, everything else has failed, so…..I guess I’ll have a public sob”
Can you just see this woman in a high level meeting, getting frustrated,….I guess almost anything could happen.
Just win, baby.
