The writer is Douglas Adams.
Thank you, thank you, to all who prayed for my daughter (yesterday, WV).
Her lungs are clearing and she may be able to go home (to bed) this weekend. Husband and baby are really missing her!
It is especially scary for everyone when she gets a bacterial infection, because her immune system is slightly compromised due to an illness she suffered earlier overseas.
Speaking of deadlines, as I’ve contemplated the next couple weeks in my busy life, I see I may actually meet the Benevolent Dictator.
I’ve been wondering about the etiquette–do I bow? Tilt my laptop in her direction? Glance nervously about looking for the scepter?
Or, since we’re going to be with a group of writers, should I take on the role of Blogjester and wear a silly hat made of World Magazine covers and dash before her crying “The Benevolent Dictator is Coming”?
What would you do?
OH Michelle…the possibilities….
By the way, my friend Steve is going home from the hospital today. The surgery Wednesday was not successfull so he will be looking at having surgery in 6 to 8 weeks. The guy I used to date built their house and that is how we all became friends. He called me this morning and is on his way up to fix the hole in the ceiling for them before Steve gets home. Thank you to all who prayed. It was very much appreciated.
How about these words, Michelle:
“I come, bearing gifts….;”
or perhaps,
“we have seen your star in the west…” (uh, maybe not that);
or better,
“Wow! you don’t look anything like your avatar!”
What would I do? Just avoid that sceptre at all costs!
LOL, Michelle! Your ruminations do give me an idea — I should bring the ACTUAL scepter with me. That would make you the only person on the blog besides me and MIM (its maker) who has actually viewed it in person.
Don’t you think I should start capitalizing it?…
“The Scepter.”
Maybe I should put it on a touring exhibit, like the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Justus wins! Douglas Adams is correct. Please enjoy your digital cappucino…

Lynn,
Is there a photo in the archive somewhere for the newbies who have no idea what you’re talking about?
Cute quote:
“A man likes his wife to be just clever enough to comprehend his cleverness, and just stupid enough to admire it.” — Israel Zangwill.
I just assumed you carry the scepter with you everywhere, particularly when you wear your tiara. Oh, do you have a tiara? Maybe I should dig the old World Magazines out of the recycle bin and make you one . . .
I’d love to admire MIM’s workmanship, of course.
Michelle,
I don’t think Lynn actually needs the scepter. She wields power and authority (in a feminine way, of course) just by being who she is. The scepter is more a reminder to those who sometimes forget. But probably a curtsey would be in order.
I do envy you for being able to meet each other (of course, I’ve met EYG), but even more so, the venue.
Speaking of meeting each other in real life, a student from Purdue sent our church a request for housing while he completes an internship at GE. We offered him a room, he accepted, and moved in the beginning of January. He’s from a similar background, so we mentioned WMB. Turns out he’s an occasional reader/poster. Small world…
I had a scepter photo, Cameron, but can’t locate it at the moment. MIM, do you still have the one you sent me?
I have a prayer request. One of my best friends is on her way to the hospital at Camp Pendleton. Her son is a Marine and all they would tell her before she got there was he apparently overdosed. He has been a troubled soul for a while.
A DEEP curtsey, of course. (And if you can, shortsheet her bed.)
May we expect a full report? (Both sides, of course. We’re democratic and all that).
Lynn’s scepter power could create a whole new category of Chuck Norris (Lynn Vincent) jokes.
“Lynn is so fast wielding her scepter that she can actually hit you in the back of your face.”
“Lynn doesn’t bop you on the head with her scepter, bumps appear automatically just by thinking of her doing it.”
etc.
Common folks, let’s do some Lynn Vincent scepter jokes.
Boy, Metanoia, she gave you sirens and bells yesterday and now you want to…..gosh, I wish I could be as funny with one liners as you! You’re good!
Adios, the young man has my prayers. Had he been in combat?
Cheryl D!
My computer overheard my words of derision of the other day and is refusing to let me send emails out. Being held voiceless by my own computer may be a good thing though. But I can read them. No, it isn’t and yes, it does. Hope that helps!

I remember seeing the scepter now.
Metanoia, you want to be careful about making jokes about the scepter. Those little purple things at the end transmit virtual hexvibes at 186000mps.
I suspect Mumsee had an evil thought about the scepter, that’s her problem.
Cameron, the Purdue man has to be a great guy. I was there for a year. I liked Purdue, it’s square, like me. Does it’s best, but never suceeds in being a pretty campus. I can relate to that too. Next to Gamecocks, I’m a Boilermaker fan. Get him to tell how Boilermakers got that name; it’s interesting.
Adios, I will pray for the Marine. I’m not quite sure what to pray for. That he will recover? Get his life straight? All of the above?
Thanks, Mumsee! It seemed OK when I wrote it, but then I second-guessed myself. But I sent it as is (just changing the line about looking poor to a more specific one about well-worn clothing). I was in awe of the woman and didn’t want to come across as disrespectful.
(For the rest of you, I e-mailed Mumsee and a few other people a couple paragraphs from a book I’m writing, wanting to be sure my description of a loving old lady didn’t come across wrong.)
Chas,
Will do when he returns Sunday night! (He went home for the weekend).
Well, I’m back among the living and feeling way, way better. I still have a small cough and my throat still hurts, but I feel a thousand times better than I did a week ago. And I still have half my voice! So far, so good on the voice.
I’m getting excited about several upcoming events:
1. March Madness - With the Tennessee men and ladyh Vols being so good this year, it’s gonna be exciting to see how far they go in the tournament.
2. March 1st is coming soon. It’s the day I traditionally don my shorts for the first time, in anticipation of warm weather being just around the corner. It’s my way of saying “Hurry up and get here Spring!”.
3. I looked at the calendar, and on March 8th (I think), the time changes. That means an extra hour of daylight. I can hardly wait! That’s a sure sign of warmer weather.
4. Our season baseball tickets were renewed by my boss. Yes! I cannot wait to eat a hot dog and drink a beer. There is no finer way to spend a nice evening, than sitting in our 3rd base seats, watching a ball game.
I have to get on the stick at work. I write an “April Fools” company newsletter every year that mocks the company for it’s foibles and falling-down’s over the past year. This is my 5th year writing it, and it’s not easy coming up with 4 pages of articles. I already have some ideas, but writing and editing them to fit is no easy task. One idea: a company “rebate” mocking the tax rebates we’re all supposed to be getting. Business has been down- will the rebates stimulate productivity? It’s a fine line I have to walk - not offending the owners (or other employees), yet delivering a send-up of the company that makes people laugh.
Welcome back, Anlir! Glad to hear you’re feeling better and can talk a little.
MiM–nice job on the scepter! It is really beautiful, and most worthy of the one who wields it.
Janie,
thanks.
Chas,
Now how did I manage those strange rays in that sceptre!? I may have to recall it to see how that was done…
