Eat, pray, love, gag
This book reviewer calls Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love the most popular travel writing of the last two years, and the most “self-absorbed, culturally oblivious and vaguely sexist” one, too. It’s the Lifetime Network meets the Food Network meets Methamphetamines. He calls is adventure porn for women:
Around the middle of the 20th century, pulpy American men’s magazines published what has come to be known as “adventure porn” - breathlessly told tales that involved hairy-chested men fighting crocodiles, exploring rivers and surviving diseases in far-off lands.
This newer book, he says, is the same thing for women, although not so well-done, and not so literary. The reviewer recasts the plot as if told by a man, and you get his point.

…..made popular by the new feel good goddess Okrah.
A bunch of blogs are denouncing the ferocity of the backlash against this book. Unfortunately this is the kind of tripe that America likes to cram into it’s already bloated snack hole.
So it sounds like a different version of Mars and Venus on Safari… is that it?
Sorry, HSK, I tried to read the story but got lost somewhere about the third paragraph.
“hairy-chested men fighting crocodiles, exploring rivers and surviving diseases in far-off lands.”
“got lost somewhere about the third paragraph.”
Somebody launch a rescue party, just don’t call on President GW(ashington) for help with the party part.
Please report back here.
Thank you.
By the time I got there, the party was over.
Nevertheless, here I am.
