Rants! & Raves! 3.14
Here it is, Rants! & Raves!, your weekly chance to sound off about the week past. Remember the rules:
1. A Rave! is something that happened during the past week that you’re pleased about and is signified by the word “Rave!” and/or an appropriately peppy emoticon.
2 A Rant! is something that happened during the past week that you’re ticked about and is signified by the word “Rant!” and/or an appropriately grumpy emoticon.
3. You may Rant! about something a person said, did or wrote, but you may not Rant! about generally disliking a person.
Have fun! ![]()

Rant!: Harrison Scott Key
HSK is a playwright, and this past week I mentioned a play I’ve written and asked for his help in getting it performed. It’s set in the 1950s, and it’s about a middle aged Southern couple whose marriage is extremely dysfunctional, held together only by decades of denial and alcoholism. But one night they’re forced to confront the years of lies and buried secrets, and each other, after their 18 year old daughter runs off with an Orthodox rabbi. It’s called Fiddler on a Hot Tin Roof.
Well, so far I’ve heard nothing from Harrison. Which really disappoints me. I don’t know if he’s too busy to help me out, or (more likely) just plain jealous that he didn’t write the play.
Anyway, I’m going to give him one more chance. On a thread about the Oscars, he said he loves musicals. Well, it just so happens that I’ve also written a musical, and I could use his help in getting it publicly performed. It’s about Earth being invaded by extraterrestrial aliens with a weird menswear fetish. It’s called Take Me To Your Lederhosen!
So call me, Harrison!
(BTW, I’m thinking Mandy Patinkin for the lead, but I’m open to your suggestions.)
Rant: I got my “Economic Stimulus Payment Notice” letter from the federal government yesterday. You know, the notification letter that cost the government $42M to send out.
Rant: I’m not eligible for a rebate this year.
Rave: I’m not eligible for a rebate this year!
Rave: Night Train! Thanks for the laugh. Definitly go with Mandy Patinkin.
Rave: Waves are up!
Rant: We’ve lost our offshore winds so today won’t be as tubular as hoped.
Rave: I get to spend the whole day in the yard tomorrow planting and trimming!
Rave: March Madness is near.
Rant: No time to watch any of the games.
Rave: Business being bought out by private equity firm.
Rant: Nothing to do again come June, still no hobby to keep me busy in retirement - have to find work somewhere.
Rant:
I absolutely hate that this forum software logs me out while I’m posting…
Rave: Great weather!
Rant: I’m stuck at school today.
Rave: I’m getting a small tax refund this year from Uncle Sam.
Rant: Most of it will go towards what I owe to two different states.
Rave: Jesus is risen!
# 6 - I’ll RANT you that as well MiM!
Rant: My new niece or nephew was “officially” due yesterday, but my sister thought it would be early. (None of her others have been, so I didn’t think it would be, but she’s the mama.) So I’ve now been “on call” for nearly three weeks, and am still waiting. Didn’t sleep well last night, either, since I got a voice mail from her right when I was going to bed (1 a.m.) that she thought she was in labor.
Rave: It may finally be looking a little bit like spring. Well, my backyard needs mowed–badly–and the daffodils are coming up, but I’m still waiting for trees to start blooming.
Rant: I just got through dealing with a 30 minute tantrum.
Rave: I didn’t have a hose near by so I’m not in trouble.
My sympathies, KBELLS. My youngest was famous for her tantrums. She could hold out for what seemed forever, even when banished to her room. Now she has a son who has his own tantrums and she is the calmest mother I know. She also works in a daycare. There is hope!
#11. He’s been banished to his room for an hour and half now. I’m tempted to look for an excuse to leave him there a little longer.
Rave: I’ve had such a lazy week with my teeth out and all, I don’t even know what day it is anymore.

The Gamecocks just lost to the Vol’s 87-85.
actually, it was a good game. The difference, as I see it, was the foul shooting. It’s a shame to miss so many foul shots.
But the Heels beat the Seminoles.

I’ve thought about Mark Roth’s rant too. A shame.
I never heard anyone lament for Monica Lewinski. Neither did I until I heard (about, I never actually heard) her say, “can you imagine a guy bringing a girl to visit his family and saying, “meet Monica Lewinski.’” Some things hurt forever.
Oh yeah, poor, helpless Monica.
I swear, evangelicals are the most crypto-feminist group on earth. Just like with Bradley and non-whites, whites are always to blame, with Christians and women, it’s always a man’s fault. Women are pure and righteous and would never sin if not forced into it by men. The whole culture’s this way these days. I remember a few years ago there was a huge forest fire, which did hundreds of millions in damage and I think killed a few people. Turned out it was arson. The arsonist was a woman who was angry because she’d just been dumped by her boyfriend. For weeks afterward, there were all these articles about what a jerk the guy was, how horribly he’d mistreated her, as if that somehow justified starting a forest fire.
Yeah, poor Monica Lewinsky, pure as the driven snow until she fell into Bill Clinton’s wily snares.
Pathetic.
Anlir, I know you Tennessee guys, you’re as bad as tigers. You ain’t sorry at all.

Rave: After 22 years of marriage, my hubby still loves me! And I still love him!
It hasn’t been easy, but working things out, being & staying committed to God & to each other during some very tough times, have been well worth it all.
Rant: The Boilermakers lost too.
Rave: Karen, that’s something to rave about. I’m happy for you.
Rave: Goodnight everybody.
