Rants! & Raves! 3.21
Here it is, Rants! & Raves!, your weekly chance to sound off about the week past. Remember the rules:
1. A Rave! is something that happened during the past week that you’re pleased about and is signified by the word “Rave!” and/or an appropriately peppy emoticon.
2 A Rant! is something that happened during the past week that you’re ticked about and is signified by the word “Rant!” and/or an appropriately grumpy emoticon.
3. You may Rant! about something a person said, did or wrote, but you may not Rant! about generally disliking a person.
Have fun! ![]()

Rant!: Lynn and Alisa, for letting Anlir go around on thread after thread calling people like Joel Mark and Victoria and me racists, accusing us of using racial slurs on WoW, and by implication, accusing Lynn and Alisa of allowing people to hurl racial slurs on WoW, simply for denouncing Obama and Jeremiah Wright and their racist, hate filled church. Lynn and Alisa, you shouldn’t allow posters to post outrageous lies about other posters. No one has made a “racial attack” on Obama, let alone used racial slurs. These lies are disgusting, and it’s disgusting that you let Anlir get away with repeating them over and over.
RANT!: Annoyed with the purposeful misinterpretation of Scripture regarding human life. And if you are going to reference the experects –> then you must deal with the fact that two thousand years of Christianity has cherished the unborn.
RAVE: My 13-year-old son is on spring break and found two jobs to keep himself busy and earn himself some spending money. I’m very proud of him, as I have been telling him over the last year that they way money is made is by working for it, and the lesson took!
RANT: My sister with cancer is getting noticeably weaker. She is still relatively comfortable, thanks to drugs, though.
RAVE: My wife and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. We had a very nice evening without the kids.
Rave: Hubbie’s been home for a couple of days and cooked dinner last night. He is a way better cook than I am.
Rant: He’s leaving again tonight and I will have to eat my own cooking for a day or so.
Rave: Today is Good Friday, and I say thanks for the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for such a stupid sinner as me.
Rave: All my children (including the adorable 6 month old grandson) will be here for Easter; first time in ten years.
Rant–sort of: I can’t haul a twenty pound baby around anymore without getting tired.
Rant: My UGA Dawgs lost in the NCAA tourney first round yesterday. I had them going to the Final Four (just kidding!)
Rave: They won the SEC tourney just to get in. Somebody said there must have been pixie dust in that tornado that hit the Georgia Dome!
Rant: The game was on so early yesterday, I missed it!
Rave: Tonight is draft night for my fantasy baseball league!
Combined Rant and Rave: I got to hear Richard Dawkins speak earlier this week. (I just revealed my location to potential stalkers.) I admit, I haven’t read any of his books. I only know him by reputation.
I was a little apprehensive, but he turned out to be much less caustic and much more superficial in his thinking than I expected.
Rave: I have a four day week-end
Rant: There aren’t enough moderates on this blog site.
Rave: There are “great” conservatives and liberals who are both able to articulate their positions well, even when they’re wrong.
It would be great if what happened on a thread stayed on a thread.
If I have indeed done such a thing, I must issue an apology and voluntarily resign from participating on this site for a period of time to be determined by Lynn Vincent.
If the accuser does not bring forth the evidence, then he should apologize and voluntarily resign from participation on this site for a period of time to be determined by Lynn Vincent.
Congratulations on your anniversary, Kyle. May you enjoy many more. I’m praying for your sister too.
Rant! - Random logoff from WMB!! GRR!
Anlir - Don’t go. I may not always agree with you, but you enhance the conversation.
Rave - This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.
9 “For all of the racist, hate-filled, demeaning language that has occurred on here over the past week.”
Would a non-racist use racist, hate-filled, demeaning language?
What Joel Mark and his fellow conservative Christians are saying is that because the Liberians (or some other people group) has it worse right now, black people have no right to speak up about how they were and are treated. In other words, if you’re black: sit down, shut up, and don’t speak unless you’re asked to.–Anlir/#52 on “Angry Fringe…” thread
I would argue this is at least borderline evidence. You don’t have to use the “r” word to achieve the effect of labeling someone that way.
Yeah, well I’m shocked too - at how the racists and the haters have come out of the woodwork on here.—Anlir/#88 on the “Racial Divide” thread
No names, but the meaning’s pretty clear
Rant: Tattletales.
Rave: Recess. Our nice kindergarden teacher.
Well, Cameron, so far you have brought forward no evidence that I called Joel Mark, Victoria, and Night Train “racists”. Please bring anything you think is pertinent forward. Let’s have everything I’ve said on the matter laid out for all to see. Then we’ll let Lynn make a ruling.
I’ve had a very serious charge made against me on here. I want the evidence brought forward, where both my accuser and I will be brought to account.
Having read post #1 above, where I am charged with specifically calling Joel Mark, Victoria, and Night Train “racists”, I call for the evidence to be brought forward without delay.
Another lie by Anlir. Here’s what I actually said:
Lynn and Alisa, for letting Anlir go around on thread after thread calling people like Joel Mark and Victoria and me racists, accusing us of using racial slurs on WoW, and by implication, accusing Lynn and Alisa of allowing people to hurl racial slurs on WoW,
I never claimed you specifically said us three, but you keep going on about all these “racists” and “racial slurs” without being specfic, and then naming me and Joel and Victoria in response to my demand that you show us these “racial attacks” and “racial slurs” that, according to you, Lynn and Alisa have allowed to “predominate” on WoW.
See the thread on America’s Racial Divide here:
http://snipurl.com/2269b
On this thread, in comment #77, Anlir said this:
Those who continue their racial and personal attacks on Obama are going to be sorely disappointed by it’s ineffectiveness. One can already see the rising frustration, evidenced by their increasing racial slurs and vicious personal attacks on Obama. It’s a pity that their voices have become so predominate on here.
I pointed out that Anlir was lying, but he never responded. So on the McCain Takes the Lead thread here:
http://snipurl.com/22ati
In comment #27, I challenged him to point out these “racial attacks” and “racial slurs” that have come to “predominate” on WoW, or explain why he would tell such an outrageous lie.
In #34, he responded:
I call it as I see it: racism and the politics of personal destruction have found a home on WorldMag. That it’s happening on a conservative Christian website is disappointing, but not surprising.
I wear the attacks of NT, Victoria, and Joel Mark as a badge of honor!
Now he wants to pretend that he wasn’t implying that I, Joel, and Victoria are the “racists” he was talking about.
Then, on the Obama’s Former Pastor So What? thread, here:
http://snipurl.com/22av9
he says this in #54:
Other than Anthony Bradley, this site is devoid of the voices of black people. We do, however, have more than our share of racists. We need an exchange program desperately!
In the next comment, Cheryl D asked him who has shown themselves to be racists. Anlir never replied.
And then, on this very thread in #9, he says:
For all of the racist, hate-filled, demeaning language that has occurred on here over the past week. It’s disappointing that the editors have not reigned it in.
You can’t run around on thread after thread claiming that WoW is filled with racists who make racial attacks and use racial slurs, and then claim you’ve called nobody a racist because you didn’t use any names.
This garbage needs to stop, Lynn. He’s not only libeling several of us on here, he’s also libeling you and Alisa by claiming that you’ve allowed racists to fill WoW with “racial attacks” and “racial slurs”.
Then, tell us, Anlir - if you weren’t referring to me, or Joel, or Victoria, who are these racists who “predominate” on WoW who you are referring to?
One more time, Anlir. Show us all several examples of “all of the racist” words and language on WOW over the past week you’re talking about.
Bring it all forward Night Train. Every last bit of it. Let me know when you are finished.
Then we will put my fate (and yours) in the hands of Lynn.
Kayvee,
I couldn’t agree with you more. It is tiresome. That’s why I want this over and done with now. I stand accused of calling 3 of my fellow bloggers “racists”. It is a sad thing either way. I will do my part to make it right so that folks like you can enjoy this site again. My apologies that you have to endure this, but I must stand up to the charges and either refute them or take responsibility.
Anlir, you can settle it once and for all. You said the “racists” have come out of the woodwork on WoW. You said “racists” and their “racial attacks” and “racial slurs” have come to “predominate” on WoW. You said a lot of “racist” language has occurred on Wow this past week.
So who are you referring to?
You’ve certainly made the claim, repeatedly, that there are a lot of “racists” on WoW. You’re certainly calling some posters on WoW racists.
So who are they?
Rave: Barack Obama is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I’ve ever known in my life.
Rave: Did I mention “The Manchurian Candidate” is a wonderful movie (the 1962 version is better, imho).
LMBO! That’s it, TJ, cover your rear end!
Let me know when you are finished presenting your evidence Night Train. The good people of WorldMag deserve to have this matter settled so they can go on enjoying this site.
Actually, Anlir, I think they’re waiting for you to present your evidence.
Where are some of these “racial attacks” on Obama you refer to? Threads and comment #s, please.
Where are some of these “racial slurs” you say have appeared on WoW this past week? Threads and comment #s, please.
Who are these “racists” who’ve come out of the woodwork and have come to “predominate” on WoW? Names and threads and comment #s, please.
I will give Night Train a final opportunity to present any further evidence that I called him, Joel and Victoria “racist”. What I won’t do is get into an argument with him. I’m content to let Lynn Vincent make the determination.
Lynn? Lynn? Are you there?
Rant: Hubby & younger daughter sick with a bad cold this week, especially daughter. Hubby still had to work his physically demanding job with long hours.
Rave: I am privileged to be the one they look to for help & comfort.
Rave: Jesus Christ was crucified, but rose again, breaking the power of sin & death. He saved my sorry soul & has blessed me with a good life & wonderful family.
Rant: None of the seeds I planted yesterday have come up.
Rave: It snowed again last night!
Night Train and Anlir,
I’m checking in from a Chilis, Too at the airport in Phoenix where I am covering a story. I have read your dispute on the thread and ask that you both cease fire here and email me with your grievances. I’ll do the best I can to mediate. I want you both to stay!
I’m at [email protected]
What’s a burger at Chilis, Too at an airport cost? 25 bucks?
On a lighter note…
Rave: I switched to Firefox and can now see the names of the threads.
Rave: I had a good Bible study with 2 ladies this afternoon.
Rave: I am trying out Facebook and have made contact with some people I haven’t seen in years.
Rave: We have visitors on our compound for the next month. Whoo hoo, someone here besides the three of us.
Rave: I don’t have any rants!
Rant - The fact that certain demonimations feel the need to change the words to well-loved, commonly sung hymns in order to “denominationalize” them. Why can’t they leave well enough alone? GRR!!
Rave - On this Resurrection Sunday: Christ is risen!
Klasko — which denominations and how do they “denominationalize” hymns? Examples, please!
The LCMS does it all the time.
Wesley’s Christ the Lord Is Risen Today was changed to “Jesus Christ I Risen Today” - And all the verses had different words than the ones I learned as a child. That first line was a small change and annoyed me because they have done it and made bigger changes to many other hynms.
I don’t have a Lutheran hymnal handy, but I’ll see if I can’t borrow one so I can cite more examples. It’s just one of those things thast irk me. A pastor once told me that they make some hymns more corporate and less personal for use in worship by changing the words.
It just bugs me.
Klasko,
I’ve seen both versions recently, and I’m Presbyterian. I just assumed they were two different hymns.
CHRIST THE LORD IS RISEN TODAY (Lyra)
Words: Charles Wesley, 1739. Stanzas 8-10, author unknown, 14th Century; translated from Latin to English in Lyra Davidica. This exuberant song is one of the most popular Easter hymns in the English language.
Music: Easter Hymn, composer unknown, in Lyra Davidica (London: 1708) (MIDI, score).
Wesley’s words were written for use at the first worship service at the Wesleyan Chapel in London. The chapel, on the site of a former iron foundry, became known as the Foundry Meeting House, and this hymn was included in the Foundry Collection.
Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth, reply, Alleluia!
Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Lo! the Sun’s eclipse is over, Alleluia!
Lo! He sets in blood no more, Alleluia!
Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Alleluia!
Christ hath burst the gates of hell, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!
Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!
Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!
Hail, the Lord of earth and Heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to Thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail, the resurrection, thou, Alleluia!
King of glory, Soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, Thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing and thus to love, Alleluia!
Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
Unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!
Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
Sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!
But the pains that He endured, Alleluia!
Our salvation have procured, Alleluia!
Now above the sky He’s King, Alleluia!
Where the angels ever sing. Alleluia!
Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!
Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!
Suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!
You can all look up the hymns on this site, with all the authors and those who composed the music. It’s a wonderful site…..ENJOY!
http://www.cyberhymnal.org/index.htm#lk
Tonight they don’t have the music which you can normally hear on your speakers. Maybe there is something wrong with the site.
It’s been a wonderful Resurrection Sunday.
God bless you all
Rave: Our BD for stepping on and taking the tit-for-tat off line.
Rave: I got a summer job to supplement the teacher salary so we can do some much-needed work on the house. If any of you are in the Hannibal, MO area this summer, stop in at the Mark Twain Cave. I’ll be one of the tour guides!
Thanks, Victoria.
TJ - To expound on that rant - I must confess that I am not objective in this. Obviously the LCMS is not the church of my upbringing. It is however the church of DH’s upbringing and also where both of my children were confirmed, with me sitting in the whole time to make sure that I tempered what was being taught with what I had come to believe after careful study of the Bible itself. Trying to be a Berean Christian, as it were, and teaching my children to do the same. Duriung that time, one of my chief complaints was that the blue hymnal they were using at the time rendered just about every hymnn unsingable and if (big if) there were any familiar hymns or tunes, the words had been changed beyond recognition, and I was completely frustrated to the point of distraction.
They have since quit using the blue hymnal at this church (which we had been away from for about 10 years - long story), and the new brown hymnal has hymns in more singable arrangements and many more familiar hymns, most of which have been altered in the words to keep them more Lutheran.
Lutherans are fond of pointing out their differences with other worshipping bodies and have a difficult time leaving differences at the door and focusung on the common ground they have with other Christians. It is after all, their differences that distinguish them and set them apart from others. (to the point that their then Synod president was disciplined for practicing syncretism for participating in an ecumenical service after 9/11).
I attend an LCMS church because this is where DH chooses to attend and my place is with him. For myself, I see myself as Christian first and Lutheran second. I can be comfortable in any worship setting where Christ is proclaimed and there are no salvation issue erors being taught. Members of my family are only comfortable in a High Church setting.
Just to clarify - Klasko, it wasn’t the Synod president, it was Dr. David Benke, the President of the Atlantic region of the LCMS who participated in the ecumenical service after 9/11.
Yes, Mommy, you are right. I had his office wrong. My apologies.
Rave: I heard that my manager is leaving the company. I have no idea who they’ll replace him with, but chances are it will be a change for the better.
Rant: My husband has bronchitis.
