I’m ba-ack…
Hi, friends!
I have returned from mononuclear exile! Well, sort of…
For those of you who’ve discovered WMB over the last three months, an introduction: I’m Lynn Vincent, managing editor. After a long bout with (crazily enough at age 45) mononucleosis, I am returning to the blog on a part-time basis. Just enough to aggravate you.
Kristin, Mickey, and Harrison have done a stellar job in my absence, so let’s all pause for a round of applause…
(applause! applause!)
(keep going, applause! applause! applause!)
Now, a wrap-up on my condition: One month in bed (April 9 to May 9); another two weeks mostly in bed; then back to work on an as-able basis. Then about three weeks ago, I looked at my husband late one afternoon and exclaimed, “Hey, guess what? I worked a whole day!”
If you’ve never had mono or known someone who has, it is an illness of setbacks. I’ve had some — as well as a continuing, annoying, and previously unheard of need to sometimes catnap in the midafternoon (I hate that!) But all in all, I’m doing very, very well.
Thank you all so much for your kind notes and prayers!

Welcome back, Lynn.
I wish I could take naps for you
Lynn, glad you are back and even gladder you are doing very well. I had Mono around age 29 and it was no fun indeed. “Be strong and courageous.” (Josh. 1).
We do applaud your stand-ins! — but note that it took three of them to do your job. Welcome back! Do you know where your sceptre is?
Lynn’s Back! Lynn’s Back!
Hi Lynn
Welcome back.
Things had better straighten up now!
Really, Kristin, Mickey and Harrison have done a good job. Sometimes things got a little wild, but most of us are still here. We have some new guys and we haven’t heard from Drill in some time, and EYG has been away too. But she goes to Columbia occasionally.
I knew a woman (girl?) once who had mono and it took her a long time to get back, but not as long as you. But I knew you were around because you wrote a couple of articles in World.
It was a well-earned and needed sabbatical. You will have to share any new insights you learned about yourself or about the Lord when He had you where he wanted you to be.
I would love to hear EYG’s take on the big “hostage rescue” done in Colombia. The American hostages (sounds weird to say that after all these years) are being examined at my old hospital down IH-35, BAMC! The WSJ had a good article about the various allies the FARC has.
Wow. Sorry you had to go through all that. Sounds rough.
Glad you’re back though. Hope the mono goes and stays far far away.
Interesting. Random Name came back today also…
Hmmmm…..
NJ: My scepter is sitting on a bookcase just behind me and to my left — well within reach for quick and merciless head-bonkings…
Hi Lynn,
So happy you are feeling so much better.
NJL asked you “Do you know where your sceptre is?”
Just to clear things up, I didn’t take it — however I do have a ’silver BONG with a gold ball on the end, with a silver cord and tassle’ — I was forced to use it on a number of nasty little posters while you were out sick.
it was a tough job, but someone had to do it!
You were missed (although the rest held down the fort admirably).
To Ms. Vincent
Welcome back. I don’t know anything about sports so could you tell me the last time:
The San Diego Chargers won the Super Bowl
and
The San Diego Padres won the World Series
Hi Lynn,
Welcome back. Been there done that at around 21. A guy in our church just had it at forty eight so it hits people verging on a mature outlook as well. Exhausting. Keep those naps going but it will be nice to see you around more. I hope you are not wearing some of those silly pink sandals with heels or your troubles have just begun.
Welcome back. Are you ready for the tattling or do you need a couple of more days.
See post 3,10 and 13 and ask questions.
Welcome back! I checked this thread hoping it was from you, but I admit I was disappointed by one previous thread that I expected to be from you announcing your return. Glad this one really is.
We kept the fire burning for you, but alas it is way too warm now to need a fire, and we sure spent a lot on logs and air conditioning. Glad you’re back.
Cheryl D: Thanks for the kind words — how’s the View?
Nick! I just got back and you’re already bagging on my city?!
kBells: I don’t have enough energy for retroactive tattling!
Sawgunner: Yes, the Lord worked many changes in me through this experience. Interestingly, I am a much more relaxed person.
Victoria: Thanks for your spirited participation in my absence!
Mumsee: “verging on a mature outlook…? I like that! Sounds better than “middle-aged”
Joel Mark, MIM, and krm: Thanks for the encouragement!
Graceland: Trust me, if I could let you take my naps, I would!
#8 MIM,
LOLOLOLOL. Hopefully you aren’t on to something.
Welcome back to Lynn and Random. Lynn, your stand ins did well in your stead except for the occasional wannabe poem fetish
#8,17.. Has any one ever seen them in the same room?
Welcome back, Lynn!
Even though Lynn chose today to come back just to steal my thunder, I will limit myself to one crack of thunder, one flash of lightening, and then retire into the clouds and let her shine in all her glory.
Seriously, Lynn, I am glad to see you back and glad to hear you are on the road to recovery.
I presume that everyone realizes that I am Drill’s evil twin, or he’s my good twin, or something like that. Anyway, notice that you are not seeing us both together in the light of day.
Rather like Night Train and Nick Peters (what does the “H” stand for?…OK, never mind), though which kind of twin is which I’m sure I don’t know.
Glad you’re back in the game Lynn. I look forward to many more of your insightful thoughts. Do go easy for awhile though.
And many thanks to your most excellent subs. Keep them around.
Lynn — just for you, it’s “Dancing in the Streets..”
Welcome back.
Welcome back, Lynn. But take it easy still.
Well if you’d just quit smooching everybody you see, you wouldn’t get Mono!
Welcome back
I’ve never had mono but did break out with chicken pox at age 45 after somehow dodging the rite of passage all through childhood. Thoroughly weird.
Lynn,
As to the View, the last couple days I’ve been going through two or three weeks of that, as well as my other writers’ group, since June was so busy that I got way behind. I’m now only about three days behind.
So I obviously haven’t posted anything, but it looks like it’s going well without us. (They’ve had several questions I’ve only skimmed, like favorite books–frankly, I know the people on here better and care more about their favorite books! And they had a couple on what you do with your time, and stuff like that–well, I don’t waste my time reading posts about what strangers do all day long, that’s for sure!)
Lynn - Don’t let Victoria fool you, if she had been using the Silver Bong then she would have been much mellower than we ever see here.
Welcome back Lynn!
Did you see anything positive come out of your bought with this? Do you feel rested? Did God bless you in some way?
#27 Actually, I think the silver bong is working! There has been lots of peace and love lately.
It’s good to see you’ve improved Lynn. And good to have you back. Just don’t virtual kiss anyone, and all should be fine.
And if you need to know who needed sceptor bonking in your absence, let me know. I may be able to help you acquire such a list, if one were to exist. Just sayin’.
“kBells: I don’t have enough energy for retroactive tattling!”
Okay, but if you were to ask me anything about silver bongs, I won’t lie to you.
KRM,
EXPLAIN please - You got of easy, don’t push it!
It should be “got off easy”
#29 LOL
How about we ALL start taking a nap in the afternoon to keep Lynn company. It can be a group-wmb-nap.
Welcome back, Lynn! I missed you very much, even though the others certainly did a great job.
I had mono in high school. It pretty much did in my junior year. Glad you’re better. Do take those naps, though–you’ll be glad you did!
Victoria #32- I think you received plenty of explanations about your use of the word “bong”, as it is a term for a drug apparatus. KRM is saying that if you used such a bong, you would be mellowed by the effects of a tranquilizing drug. Perhaps you should have called you pseudo-scepter a “bonger”?
I like mommy’s idea. Of course, I am not around here in the afternoon due to schedule, so I already take a virtual nap!
Hey, Lynn. Welcome back!
I had mono a couple of years back and it was a shocking experience so I can sympathise, to some degree, with what you’ve been through. We call it Glandular Fever down in Oz.
And in regards to different terminology… you do realise that the term “bonking” refers to a very specific activity in some countries?!?
#38 The differences between British and American English can be funny. I assume the same for Australian.
Americans say, “Keep your chin up”. Brits say “Keep your pecker up”, i.e. your beak.
Americans say, “I’ll come over”. Brits say, “I’ll knock you up”.
etc.
Thanks to all you for your kind welcome-backs!
Flaming Icarus: No, I hadn’t realized “bonking” meant something else in other lands…but when I was in the Navy, a friend of mine said he got lots of interested giggles when introducing himself to ladies in Australia. His name was Randy
Xion: Yes, God taught me many lessons through this experience: to relax more, to put love and relationships first, and that the world will not stop spinning if I’m not going 90 miles an hour with my hair on fire.
Amen to that!
One of my favorite videos in heaven will be to watch how God worked evil for good in the lives of those who love him.
Lynn,
Yes, “Hi, I’m Randy,” would surely get some interesting responses here. “Fanny” is another name that just doesn’t fly around these parts.
Glad to hear that you’ve managed to gain something from the ordeal.
I think a lot of people could benefit from having those realisations.
Victoria - Once again, a “bong” is (and has been ofr 30 years or so) the common usage term for a water pipe used to smoke pot.
Yippe. Welcome back Shipmate.
