Gravatar  43 Comments

Here it is, Rants! & Raves!, your weekly chance to sound off about the week past. Remember the rules:

 1. A Rave! is something that happened during the past week that you’re pleased about and is signified by the word “Rave!” and/or an appropriately peppy emoticon.

2 A Rant! is something that happened during the past week that you’re ticked about and is signified by the word “Rant!” and/or an appropriately grumpy emoticon.

3. You may Rant! about something a person said, did or wrote, but you may not Rant! about generally disliking a person.

Have fun!

:-)

Rant: Tourist trap restaurants who think putting feta cheese on a regular salad makes it a Greek salad and worth $8.

    Rave: The beautiful Georgia mountains.

Rave: It feels like a fall morning here!

  3. Rant and Rave:
    Psalm 101
101:1 I will sing of lovingkindness and justice:
Unto thee, O Jehovah, will I sing praises.
101:2 I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way:
Oh when wilt thou come unto me?
I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.
101:3 I will set no base thing before mine eyes:
    I hate the work of them that turn aside;
It shall not cleave unto me.
101:4 A perverse heart shall depart from me:
I will know no evil thing.
101:5 Whoso privily slandereth his neighbor, him will I destroy:
Him that hath a high look and a proud heart will I not suffer.
101:6 Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me:
He that walketh in a perfect way, he shall minister unto me.
101:7 He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house:
He that speaketh falsehood shall not be established before mine eyes.
    101:8 Morning by morning will I destroy all the wicked of the land;
To cut off all the workers of iniquity from the city of Jehovah.

:| Dad went camping and took the overseas suitcase with him so I can’t pack for Prague till Sunday.
    :) Clogging competition today!
:P A poster who posts under a name that is also my real name, with whom I often disagree. It confuses me every time.

  5. :) Daughters home this weekend with four of our wonderful grandchildren.

:) One of the men that my husband jams with told us a story about a guitar that he came across. The lady who owned it offered it to him for a very low price. He did some research and found it was worth much, much more. The great thing was that he went back to the woman and told her the true value of it. He said he would buy it for a much higher price and would still realize a profit on it. He could sell it to a dealer, who in turn would make a nice profit on it. She did decide to keep it and call him in the future if she decides to sell. I was very refreshed by his honesty in the whole deal. He happens to also be a Highway Patrolman. For all the cynics out there: there are still honest people!

:) It is indeed like an early fall day. The humidity is gone. Even the cat is happy.

:( I am still waiting for word on a particular job, and no one has reported being questioned for my background check.

  7. 7. Gravatar by mommy 07.25.08 at 9:12 am

NJL: We noticed our cats being more perky this morning, too.

I guess a rave-in-advance for me is we’ll be vacationing in your great state (at Wildwood) starting on Sunday. Also, Monday will be our 29th wedding anniversary.

  8. Congrats, Mommy!

Rave: It finally cooled off yesterday!

Rant: three weeks until the school year begins. Where did the summer go???

  9. 9. Gravatar by NJLawyer 07.25.08 at 9:27 am

Mommy, did you have to remind me of the shore?!! I know people who vacation in Wildwood every year and love it. You’re going to have a great weekend. I hope the weather holds, but even if the heat returns, Wildwood is a great place to be when that happens! Take a dip for me. Happy Anniversary.

  10. :-)
Our younger son may have found a decent apartment in an acceptable neighborhood for an affordable price. It may even be close enough to his job to walk to work.
    :-D
    He might even move out!

  11. 11. Gravatar by mommy 07.25.08 at 9:54 am

NJL: We’ve gone there every year except one since 1979. Our boys (and now our dil) love it. Last year, for the first time since they were born, we went without them (they had various reasons for not being able to go), but now swear they will never miss again. So all five of us are headed that way and will be there until Wednesday. I’ll think about you as we enjoy the beach and a Kohr’s (I’ll be you know what that is).

  12. A violent storm this past week took out a 60 ft tree in my back yard. It cost me $938.00 to get it taken out, and I still have several feet of saw dust to haul away!

  13. 13. Gravatar by NJLawyer 07.25.08 at 10:03 am

Mommy, if you mean beer, I do. If it’s something else, I don’t. I just “won” a margarita set this past week at a seminar, and the more you post, the more I want to take it to the shore and visit with my buddies.

Dav, I’m sorry. That’s just awful.

  14. 14. Gravatar by Graceland 07.25.08 at 10:05 am

Rave: Yesterday was our 4th anniversary, and tonight my wife and I are celebrating with dinner at our favorite restaurant. We only go to this restaurant once a year (because of the cost) and it’s the only time when we hold nothing back regarding expense :)

Rave: My wife had another good checkup at the doctor this week (she’s 28 weeks pregnant now). It’s been a great pregnancy so far.

Rant: I’ve been a nervous wreck this pregnancy because my wife got really sick during and after the delivery of our first child. Thankfully it was the 38th week when we had to deliver her, so I’m praying that this time we will be able to make it that late.

  15. 15. Gravatar by mommy 07.25.08 at 10:19 am

No, not a beer. Anyone else here know what I’d be referring to by having a Kohr’s at Wildwood?

  16. :) Congratulations to all you anniversarizers.

 Our church school still doesn’t have any teachers for this coming year.

 $89 for a meal for two is outlandish.

:) I’m glad to be alive.

    :) In Jesus!

:-( How can we still be having smoke in the air? Where does it come from?

    :-) Makes for beautiful sunsets!

:-( Not much progress on the writing this week-the adorable grandbaby is too much of a distraction!

:-) He smiles and waves and reaches for me everytime he crawls into the room.

:-( Insomnia most of the night

:-) At 3:15 I got out of bed and outlined the rest of my manuscript!!!!!

Now, if I can only find time to write it . . . because

    :-) Vacation starts on Sunday!

Rant: Republicans killed off the democrat plan to release 10% of the oil stored in the National Reserve. I know that the Socialists are rarely right about anything economic and they were not this time either since the reason they wanted to release the oil was crazy but it should have been done to break the speculators backs once and for all. We got 20% out but another 15% drop in oil prices could have been achieved and the speculators would be very wary in to manipulate this and other commodity markets like they have done since the democrats took over the government. You have to give the left credit when due even if they were doing it for all the wrong reasons.

Rant: The idiots Dems are now going to bail out the housing market. This completes the left’s plan to create a crisis so they could step in and nationalize / socialize the investment banking, banking and / mortgage markets in the USA.

This is biggest power grab for Marxists and Socialists since FDR and The Depression. They have learned that if they can make things appear to be horrible economically through their propaganda machine called the main stream media and convince weak minded Americans that the world is ending and we are back in 1930 again. Then they will be allowed, under this smoke an mirrors cover, to destroy the free market system, capitalism and businesses they hate so much as they institute state ownership and control over everything in your life.

You elected these idiots and now you will pay. If Obama is elected and they get 60 seats in the Senate to override any filibuster, they will then do their very best to nationalize the oil, energy and drug industries next since these have always been on their hit list.

This shouldn’t surprise you since they have been up front about it. They will do their best to destroy WalMart too. They want you to wait for years for poor health care as they restrict it and tax it. They want you pay $8 for a gallon for gasoline and huge energy bills to heat and cool your home as they restrict the supply and tax it. This week the socialist idiots proposed raising the tax on gasoline and diesel fuel again - they have no shame. They want you lose your job and keep unemployment high so you too will dependent on them.

This is exactly what the Socialists in Europe have done to stay in power and the left here snaps to attention when their master call. Yesterday, Obama spoke to 200,000 German Socialists who cheered every time Obama told them how horrible America was, how America was the cause of all the worlds ills and how right his Socialist slave masters in Europe were- in all things. It was an amazing performance of the most powerful Marxist in the world who is on the cusp of bringing America to its knees. Not even Oprah could whip up that kind of enthusiasm for Obama

Surely you didn’t miss that staged spectacle where he promised that the days of the Old America are over and that he would single handedly force America to change it’s ways. That he would lead us to a backseat of Supreme Global Socialism once and for all - where Marxists and Socialists in Europe would no longer fear America’s greatness or see America and it’s free market capitalism, freedom and individual opportunity as a dominate threat. He promised that America will no longer no longer lead a free world. We will follow Europe, do what they say, be their slaves - and like it.

The left will now tax you to death, no not just the rich - the rich aren’t rich enough to come up with all the money these fools are going to spend on their piggies as they take away your freedom and make you slaves. They will tax everyone except the 51% of the poor who will vote for them without question. They will give these poor people, the new all powerful elite, your money as payment for their votes. They are creating a majority of slaves who are totally dependent on the state and the Democratic Party for their existence - dependent on he money they receive from their socialist slave masters-= the money they stole from you.

Marxists and Socialists know the only way they can stay in power is to create and addicted majority by paying off these little piggies to keep them fat, docile and totally under the left’s control.

Get used to it - you asked for it. The life you knew, the happiness you pursued as an individual is nearly over. You will soon work to make their slaves fat and happy and nothing more.

Just hope they don’t round you up and have their Islamic Buddies cut your head off when you are broke and they have no use for you. - Socialists are prone to do this in a fit of rage after they have shaken you down for the last time and there is no more blood left in your turnip.

This is what Marxists and Socialists did to the Jews in Europe. They were made out to be evil. The were declared enemies of the state. They were declared the root of all evil in the world. They were taxed to death, their entire net worth was stolen by the state, their gold teeth were ripped out of their mouths, their hair was cut off to make close for non Jews, their only possessions they had left in their little suitcases were confiscated by the state and then they were killed.

Oddly, the survivors who came to America to escape this Marxist and Socialist genocide are almost entirely Marxist and Socialists in this country - as Democrats. But they have a history of being the last to know their end is near. Well, obviously they are no the only ones. Like I said, get used to it.

  19. :) It’s raining.

:( I might have to drive in rain.

:( My sister’s husband (father of five, nine and under) just lost his biggest contract, and will probably lose his smaller one too, simply because of a profitable company looking to squeeze out more profits.

:) A great trip to see family this week, and another one this afternoon

:) Keeping up on a heavy workload in spite of the short trips

:( Someone dear to me lost her mother yesterday, and because Southern funerals are scheduled so early, I can’t go to either the visitation (today) or the funeral (tomorrow) because of my trip out of town

Georgia mountains? As in, the Appalachians? In Colorado, we call the Apalachians ‘foothills’. :)

:D Great week facing me. Concert, babysitting, working, and a sleepover with a certain Teenage Tinkerbell. Yay!

    :) Family reunion Saturday

    :( It’s my wife’s family

:) I start therapy on my shoulder Thursday

:( It still hurts like crazy

:) My daughter’s birthday party is Sunday

    :( I’m getting old

:) Daughter loves her b’day present, 2 mice named
    Queen Mouserina and Princess Scurry

:( She’s too young, so cage cleaning falls to me

:) God has given me 2 wonderful kids

  23. AJ: I hope your therapy for your shoulder helps you. I had therapy on mine and it has kept me from surgery for awhile now.

Cheryl: Praying for your relative and you.

Graceland: Praying, too, that all goes well with your wife and the baby.

DAV: Yikes! That price makes me happy I live where my husband can just go out and cut a tree down and dispose of it himself.

    Galadriel: Are you a clogger?

To all who are glad it is cooling off: We finally have summer! I have not heard one person whine about the heat yet. My husband has not even put the air conditioner in the bedroom window yet. I don’t like it really warm anyway.

:D we received much needed rain on Thursday, to the point of my having to borrow NJL’s cell phone to contact Noah’s Boat Company. (just in case)

:( the drought we had in southern New England that preceded the aforementioned deluge.

:D The rain from yesterday. Yeah, yeah, I know I mentioned it in the first :D but my softball team was scheduled to play a make-up game last night, and I was at work (12- 9pm). I wasn’t able to play the game, so I selfishly rejoiced in seeing the torrential downpour.
:D work at the restaurant is B U S Y ! not bad for just having opened for business 6 months ago.

:D World on the Web (and my christian brothers / sisters who post on it!)

    Where do you live?

  26. 26. Gravatar by opinionated teen 07.25.08 at 3:41 pm

kBells: No idea who those two people are. The Appalachians (from what I’ve heard) are beautiful in a soft, soothing kind of way. The Rockies are beautiful in a powerful, striking kind of way. Have you ever seen the Rockies personally? I haven’t seen the Appalachians.

(If God doesn’t love the Broncos, why are Colorado sunsets blue and orange? :) )

    OP Teen

Radioactive waste would be my guess. Or smog maybe. And God is clearly a Giants fan. :)

  28. 28. Gravatar by opinionated teen 07.25.08 at 3:57 pm

No! There is no smog in Colorado, except in Commerce City, also known as Stinkytown, and what smog is there is minimal! No radioactive waste either.

Giants Shmiants. (Though better they win last year’s Superbowl than the New England Sleezebags.)

  29. 29. Gravatar by NJLawyer 07.25.08 at 4:59 pm

    So, what’s a Kohr’s?

  30. kbells,
Having been to the Alaskan range, the Brooks range, the Rockies from Colorado on up into Canada, the Swiss Alps, not to mention the Appalachians, I would have to say calling the Appalachians “mountains” is a bit of a misnomer. I lived among, and on, hills just outside of Fairbanks near as big as the “mountains” here in the south. Now I don’t disagree with the fact that the Appalachians are pretty, nor do I say I don’t enjoy them. No, I have enjoyed them, pretty much ever since moving to North Georgia.

Now lets get one other thing straight….

I take issue with comparing any of the aforementioned mountains with Michael Moore. I like all of the larger mountain ranges I mentioned, miss all of them, and wouldn’t give you two cents to see Michael Moore. In fact, I’d just about pay you money not to ever see or hear about MM ever again. No comparison. Evar.

  31. Reg: Northern Minnesota.

  32. 32. Gravatar by kBells 07.25.08 at 8:58 pm

Opinionated Teen, Yes, I have seen the Rockies in person and they are majestic, but compared to the Appalachians they seem a bit bare and well “Rockie’. So, trust me when I tell you that both the Appalachians and Jim Caveizel are pretty.
And I have spent the better part of my marriage trying to explain to my Auburn fan husband that blue and Orange do not go together.

  33. 33. Gravatar by kBells 07.25.08 at 9:00 pm

Make it man, you are right no mountain deserves to to be compared to Micheal Moore, though I suspect he has been compared to a mountain.

  34. “OpTeen”, even though it may become depressing and temporarily turn you into a fatalist (speaking from personal experience here), it is useful to be politically minded. As I like to say sometimes,
“Formulate your beliefs, be able to back them up and defend them, and then stand up for them and don’t be afraid to tell everyone.”
By the way, Michael Moore, if I remember correctly, did the Fahrenheit 9/11 documentary and he is a liberal, to say the least. If he’s the one being spoken of, that is. I must say, though, I wasn’t sure who Jim Caviezel is, but thanks to Wikipedia (five seconds ago), I now know that he played Christ in The Passion of the Christ. Liberalism (to me) is based on illogical assumptions as well as misguided and often selfish motives, among other things.
    Rant :( :
Evil continues to flourish and liberals still exist…
    Rave :) :
Speed and excellent fuel economy have been combined. Perhaps we will all have this technology in the near future. http://www.leftlanenews.com/best-mechanic-ever-ohio-man-tunes-ford-mustang-to-produce-400-horsepower-and-return-110-mpg.html
Rant :( there aren’t many places that you can drive like Jehu! (2 Kings 9:20, one of my favorite verses :) )
Rant :( Retarded laws that ban weapons and other things…
Rave :) Jim Bob Duggar (father of soon-to-be 18 kids) is running for Senate, I believe.

  35. Rave: Raspberries in our garden are huge and productive.

    Rant: *!#$!

    Well, never mind.

:-) Gasoline at the Texaco station is $3.859. It got up to $4.099.
If Bush would mention ANWR now it would come down another twenty cents.

  37. 37. Gravatar by opinionated teen 07.27.08 at 1:04 am

Blue and orange are on opposite sides of the color wheel, and automatically compliment each other! And you are entitled to your opinions. I still like the Rockies better. :)

  38. OT (OpinionatedTeen,
If I may ask, who was performing at the concert you attended?

  39. #37

OP, shh… [whispering in ear] your colors are praising each other…just trying to open your i.

    ) ) ) ) ) ) )

  42. Karen,
You really shouldn’t have done that.
Now Rio has too many right parens. It’s kinda like the biscuit and gravy problem, you can never finish both at the same time.
Besides, Rio will never learn if you keep doing it for him/her.
