Rasputin gained fame as being notoriously difficult to kill. After he was finally dead (after unsuccessful efforts with poison, shooting, etc.), the conspirators supposedly dismembered him just to be sure.
It’s more metaphorical than literal, but given Putin’s ability to remain in charge of Russia despite supposedly being unable to succeed himself in foreign office, the cartoon bites well.
What’s with the funky coat?
Sorry for my ignorance folks, but these comics always stump me…
Putin’s alright. Neocons hate him because he’s a monkey wrench in their plans to use American power to bully the world for Israel.
I strongly recommend Massie’s excellent history Nicholas and Alexandra. It is a very sad book.
After reading it one would think twice before comparing Rasputin to anyone.
Today’s comic is not funny at all.
The cartoon may not be funny to some—political cartoons are not always supposed to be funny—but it is certainly apt.
