Good morning!

Today’s quote is from a poet and preacher: “No image but the image of God can fit our soul; every other seal is too narrow, too shallow for it.”

  1. From The Washington Times weekly edition, 02/18/08.
“LONDON-The British government has cleared the way for husbands with multiple wives to claim welfare benefits for all their partners, fueling growing controversy over the role of Islamic Shariah law in the nations cultural and legal framework.
Bigamy is outlawed in Britain, but authorities have never prosecuted Muslem men who had legally married more than one woman abroad and continued to live with them after immigration.. Shariah permits men to have up to four wives at a time.
Now, after a review that began ….. has decided that all the wives of a Muslim man may collect state benefits. …..”
It’s a long story, but you have the gist.
“Neither the review, nor decision was announced publicly and their discovery by newspapers late last month triggered an uproar…..” It has caused a big ruckus. I’m surprised we haven’t heard of it otherwise.
It’s estimated that there are over 1000 polygamous marriages in Britain.

  2. A beautiful quote by John Donne.

I think having four wives is punishment enough! ;)

  4. Punishment heck, that’s unmitigated insanity!

  5. I saw this in a comic strip the other day:
Public Education: The bureaucratic process of replacing an empty mind with a closed one. From “9 Chickweed Lane” by Brooke McEldowney 2-21-2008

Any other great quotes that tell it like it is?

    Ajisuun,

Well, I enjoyed the ferry ride and tried to post a comment but, sadly, the carefully written down password on this piece of paper does not work on the computer. I will keep trying. There is a lot to be said for paper and pencil communication but apparently it does not always work when making notes to one’s self.

    Ajisuun,

Sorry to hear we are so unwelcoming! I am afraid if it ever stops accepting my password here, I will be forced to join the ranks of expelled people. Again, I tried on your site but it insists I must use my username and password, it agrees with my username but rejects my password. Maybe I need a “secret computer code” class to get by all these pitfalls.

Well, just know that you are thought of and prayed for as you seek to direct these lost ones to the Source of Life.

World blog in charge people: Ajisuun is locked out again with repeated rejections. It won’t accept her passwords.

    Ajisuun,

Did you consider changing both and starting fresh, as Ajisuun2 for example?

  10. I’ve been spotty in attendance around these parts most of the week, so forgive me if there’s been an update given lately: how’s Anlir’s voice?

Hey Lynn- My 8th grader didn’t make it to the ACSI National spelling bee, though he did well. How did yours do?

Mumsee: I tried getting onto Ajisuun’s website when she first introduced herself. I didn’t have any luck either. Haven’t tried again. Well, I got to the site, couldn’t comment.

    Chas,

After approx four days of filling out detailed paperwork (or the equivalent) it let me in to make a few comments but then changed its mind and locked me out. But today I learned that when you make your comment, you mark the little circle that says anonymous and it lets you post away. Guess it just does not like regulars. But she posts some interesting stuff about what it is like to live in The Gambia and it is neat to get a glimpse of another part of our Father’s world.

He didn’t go! He was sick with the flu right up until yesterday afternoon, so we had to call it off!

    :-(

  15. Oh Lynn, I’m so sorry!

What a bummer! At least he’ll have an expanded vocabulary of obscure words for future use.

    RobHays,

I have had the fortune of having my voice for the last two weeks, due to having swollen tonsils, which pushed on my vocal chords and helped them to work. The doctor warned me that once I got over my bronchitis, I would probably lose my voice again. The last 3 days I have started to lose it again, which is very discouraging. For the last two weeks I’ve been able to talk on the phone, to talk to my housemate who has never heard me talk, and to use drive-through windows at the bank and restaurants. Today I realized I’ve only got a few more days left before my voice is gone again. In two weeks I start speech therapy, which they hope will help me. If it doesn’t work, there are two last resorts (Botox injection into my vocal chords which is a very risky and complicated procedure, or surgery to place a plastic piece in my vocal chords, forcing it to work manually.

We are really, really hoping the speech therapy works.

  18. Still praying for ya, Anlir. The two last resorts sound pretty daunting, so here’s hoping the therapy works. Are you still stuck in Baton Rogue while all this is happening?

  19. For those who have had trouble logging in to WMB:

I had trouble logging in the other day too. So it’s not just you. The blog also logs one out at random intervals even though you’ve just posted - so you know it’s not you.

You also have to make sure you’ve entered your user name correctly also. In my case I had just installed Internet Explorer 7, and all my passwords and stuff have been wiped out. So I had to type in the user name as remembered, instead of as it actually was. It’s possible that not putting the lower case “i” in my user name prevented me from logging on.

I’m going to log out and try it again, just to test it out…

  20. Yup. That’s what happened. If you don’t get the user name exactly right, including case and spacing, then the login will give you an “incorrect password” message - even if your password is correct. Of course it is to be expected you’d get an error message -but it should at least give you the correct error - like “no such user name”!

Just noticed the spelling bee posts, Lynn! Remember how I asked for advice about my fourth grader a few days ago, who has trouble focusing, but is very intelligent? Funny thing is, he is competing in our ACSI spelling bee this Thursday. Made it in second in his class, so moves on to next level. Be praying for him! Blessings!

  22. Lately, WoW has gotten very boring.

  23. i agree with NT. *sigh* What happened to all the heated debates? And half the people i used to argue with don’t show up anymore.
