  1. Do you mean to say the Academy Awards were last night? I missed them again.

What do you mean “for those who went to bed early?” I watched the whole show and was in bed by 9:00:)

Not a big Daniel Day-Lewis fan. Apparently, he does narcissitic anger well. It was not a great movie or a great role.

    Johnny Depp got robbed.

  3. I used to care. Then I got sanctified.

Just kidding! However, I find the whole exercise pretty boring for some reason. I still like movies very much, but for some reason I cannot feel enthusiasm for any of the awards.

  4. Juno was a good movie; it’s the only one of those I saw.

La Vie en Rose deserves its award! Marion Cotillard introduced me to Edith Piaf and got me a passing grade on my French Song final exam. I skipped the class on Edith Piaf, and of course that was the singer the professor picked for our final exam dissertation. Watched La Vie en Rose and went on to get a 15/20 on the paper. (which, in France, isn’t that bad at all. I was surprised.)

  6. I was glad to see “No Country” win. Javier Bardem’s performance was great. The end of the film is a bit quirky, but it’s one of endings that makes you think about the entire film. My wife and I were talking about it for several days afterward. Usually the sign of a good film and good direction. Congrats to the Coen bros.

I saw all the films except “La Vie en Rose”. It wasn’t a particularly good year at all.

I can’t quibble with “No Country” being the best movie. I suppose my favorite was “Atonement”.

Daniel Day Lewis is deserving, though I certainly thought Johnny Depp was even better. Both of them make me go weak in the knees ;-)

John Stewart did a good job of hosting. He has the right touch humor wise, sort of like Billy Crystal. The funniest part was when he introduced Halle Berry and Dame Judy Dench, and Seth Rogan (”Knocked Up”) and Jonah Hill (”Superbad”) walked out and argued over who was a better Halle Berry.

I also liked that they went through all 80 of the “Best Movies”. I also like the retrospective on those in the industry who have passed away in the last year.

Given how much I love movies I suppose there is no way I will ever miss The Oscars, having watched faithfully since I was probably 13 years old. To me, it provides a continuity in good years and bad.
