Rants! & Raves! 4.11
Here it is, Rants! & Raves!, your weekly chance to sound off about the week past. Remember the rules:
1. A Rave! is something that happened during the past week that you’re pleased about and is signified by the word “Rave!” and/or an appropriately peppy emoticon.
2 A Rant! is something that happened during the past week that you’re ticked about and is signified by the word “Rant!” and/or an appropriately grumpy emoticon.
3. You may Rant! about something a person said, did or wrote, but you may not Rant! about generally disliking a person.
Have fun!

Rave: my wife is coming home today.
Rant: I need to get this place clean. Not a big deal really. I’m not talking vacuuming or cleaning windows. Putting stuff back is all; not as bad as it looks.
Rave: As I said Tuesday, I had coffee with TJ and the comely Cameron.
Some time ago, someone mentioned a TV commercial he really liked. There’s a commercial I sometimes hear on the radio that’s neat.
This guy is arguing with his GPS direction finder. The GPS voice is female, and of course he loses. Corny, but I like it.
Rant: I’m paying for DSL. Why is this thing so slow?
Rant:
World Mag Bloggers who disrespect those who have died. You know who you are.
Rant:
The incompetence of American Airlines.
Rave:
I think my work crisis is finally over… whew!
Rave: A good week in car sales.
Rave: After two straight years of not winning any games in their biggest tournament of the season, our 16-under girls’ YBOA team won the tournament championship.
RANT: Michael Johns was voted off (quite rudely).
RAVE: most of my family are over the flu bug
Rave: Lady Vols repeat Championship!
Rant: Husband’s job is changing and he will be traveling for the next 4-6 months. Gone M-F. The last time he did this was during first Gulf War and my friend’s husband was serving in Iraq. We managed to have a lot of fun together with our 6 kids!
Rave: 82 degrees yesterday. Snow coming on Monday! I love East Tennessee!
Rave: just got our tax estimate and it looks like we put enough aside.
Rant: H&R Block considers us a small business and charged us thusly.
Rave: They did give us some advice on how to cut it a little more.
Rant: We got a nasty storm with high winds, rain, sleet and snow - all within about a half hour of each other. This storm will be around until tomorrow, and began Thursday afternoon. It’s COLD!
Rave: It’s supposed to be pushing 70 degrees here on Tuesday. My son keeps asking me when spring is going to be here. Until now, I haven’t had an answer, since evidently the calendar is WAY off.
Rave: It appears I still have a job.
Rant: I have to cut my hours.
Rave: I have to cut my hours.
Rant: I still have to pay my bills.
Rant: Chas hitting on my wife (”comely”?) at Black Bear Coffee house in Hendersonville, NC!
Rave: Getting to meet a fellow World Mag blogger. Chas is a nice guy and even gave me a ride back to my meeting in his swell car!
Rant: For easy identification, I told Chas I would be wearing a red University of Georgia shirt. He showed up wearing his University of SC jacket!
Rave: I had 2+ wonderful days of vacation with the comely Cameron in Pigeon Forge, TN. We rented a mountain cabin, had one of those old timey photos taken in Gatlinburg, even had a long conversation about the gospel with the owner of a gift shop. Got to have dinner with old friends on Wed evening at the Old Mill restaurant.
Rant: It’s raining (again!) in Louisville, KY today. And I need to get to work!
Rant:
This cartoon explains why I post on World Mag.

Loved it, MiM!
Rant
- Dealing with “withdrawal” from anti-depressant (Cymbalta) which had been helping me sleep.
Rave
- Hubby’s colonoscopy & endoscopy came out completely clean! (He’s already been living with prostate cancer, which can raise the chances of developing colon cancer.)
Rave
- After leaving hospital, had lunch at Panera Bread (yummy!) & bought a big loaf of delicious French bread to enjoy at home. (Makes delicious toast, too.)
Rant: We have the snowiest end of the storm TL is talking about. All trees and other surfaces covered in the white stuff. It will go on until tomorrow morning.
Rave: It is beautiful, although almost too bright! We don’t have to go anywhere and are snug as two bugs in a rug.
Karen, so glad for your good news for hubbie. We don’t have a Panera Bread close, but I do have a freshly made loaf of French Sourdough and it makes wonderful toast too. I love the food at Panera too. Praying for you also.
It would be great to be in Pigeon Forge. My middle daughter was married there.
Rave: My son-in-law made it home last Tues. in spite of the troubles in the air industry. He works in Alaska and lives in TN. Only home for a very short period, so hopefully he will make it back again with no problem.
Rave: My daughter still has at least part of a job!
Rave- March Madness, it was a great tournament for both men and women and my picks didn’t make it
Rave - the Together for the Gospel conference next week in Louisville. Some of my theological bubblegum cards will come to life.
Rant - Wife has to have a partial or total thyroidectomy.
Honorable mention: MIM’s cartoon link.
Ivan, I looked at the T4G conference (via the link at your blog). Looks interesting (especially since I live in Louisville), but it leads me to a rant:
Rant: The price tag ($250) is a bit steep.
Rave: I have heard/seen Sproul and Dever in person before, and they are wonderful speakers.
If you have time, I’d be willing to buy you a cup of coffee. However, I might have to keep the comely Cameron at home this time, per Chas’ comments.
Rave: The Office and 30 Rock returned last night!
Rant: Still have to wait a bit longer for Lost to return. Man, I hate strikes.
Rave: Great job by Memphis to get to the Finals and play 38 minutes of strong basketball.
Rant: Basketball games last 40 minutes, helping the Tigers snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. This town is hurting….badly.
Rave: Liverpool advanced past Arsenal in the Champions League this week. On to the Semifinals!
Rant: Our next opponent is the mighty Chelsea, for the 3rd time in 4 years. Surely our luck will run out soon.
Rave: The spring weather is much more pleasant for cycling.
Rant: Too big of a break in the winter means I am WAY out of shape!
Rave: I have several work projects coming in (after a dry spell).
Rant: Last night’s storm knocked a new large branch off the tree that lost a large limb in my yard last summer, and which I have asked the owners to remove (one whole tree fell, taking a large chunk of this one with it, destroying a good portion of my fence and coming to rest against my house).
Rave: The new branch is maybe 15 feet long, but didn’t do any damage once I pushed it off the fence, so it may just give me an excuse to contact the home owners again and ask them to remove the rest of the tree before it falls on my house.
Rant: The storm continues, and it’s supposed to be below freezing (with possible snow) this weekend.
Rave: Last night I had my first “date” in about 13 years (”just as friends,” but it was nice).
Rant: He gave me a choice between Starbucks and Panera, neither of which I like
–I chose Panera and worried how I could avoid being a “picky eater” by taking five minutes to determine whether there was anything at all on their menu that looks good this week. (Last time I ate there, I finally decided on a turkey sandwich but verified that it was real turkey rather than processed. No, it was processed! I don’t pay seven bucks for lunchmeat on impossibly chewy weird-flavored bread.)
Rave: He asked if I wanted something to drink, so I got away with only ordering a soft drink.
Uh oh, TJ, looks like Cameron found Chas dashing–you may indeed need to leave her home next time.
Ivan, praying the surgery will go well for your wife. It will be nice for her to eventually be symptom free. She will sure need your understanding and patience. I sure appreciated my husband’s patience when my thyroid was haywire.
TJ-
I’ll take you up on your offer. I’ll have Tuesday morning free @ the Galt House.
KI - thank you
Ivan the T- “Theological bubble gum cards” LOL!
Paula - I cannot claim originality on that, I think I heard R. C. Sproul use it.
Rave- we probably will not have a drought this year with all the rain lately. The Mississippi is over its banks here.
Rant- Power line came down in last night’s storm, leaving the entire town w/o electricity for 4 hours.
Rave- No one was hurt even thought there were tornadoes.
Rave- I got a few things done that needed done, since I could not use the computer or watch TV. I even went to bed early!
Rave- Bible conference in St Louis area with Paul Washer and my former pastor, among others, this weekend. I thought it was in two weeks when I won’t be able to go.
Ivan, I haven’t been to the Galt House before, but I just checked the website. It looks like Thelma’s might be the place to grab a cup of coffee. Tuesday morning looks open on my end.
Rant: Had to meet twice with the deputy headmaster of my Gambian “son/nephew”’s school to keep him from being suspended for the rest of the year.
Rave: I was already across the river and in the area of the school.
Rave: The man truly seems to have the boy’s best interests at heart.
Rave: He is back in school, but on probation for the rest of his life. (He’s grade 11, so has to behave himself for a year and a half.)
Double rave! My co-worker is back from furlough!
Rant:
Hillary Clinton deflecting blame to Colombia when she was questioned about using foreign funds to fund her campaign .
She giggled, laughed her laugh, said something stupid and came out blaming our ally. She certainly isn’t one to take the responsibility for her actions. I hope we never see another Clinton in office again.
And since we’re commenting on AmIdol (see post re. Johns)
John McCain was the one who made a funny comment on the show last night.
Brooke was not in the bottom 3.
TJ-
Thelma’s @9:00 OK with you?
Rave:
The student art exhibit and reception is tonight.
I’m excited to be a part of my first exhibit as an artist.
Unfortunately, my teacher didn’t choose the paintings I was most proud of. But, at least they don’t stand out as being horrible.
It’s fun, anyhow.
Cheryl - Glad to hear you have more work coming in. You came to my mind this morning, & I was praying for that.
You don’t like Panera? Have you tried their chicken salad? It’s really good.
KI - Thank you!
EYG - Enjoy your debut!
Ivan, 9 am sounds great.
In God’s providence, since my last post, a fellow pastor in the area sent me an email asking if I was planning on going and saying there might be the possibility of his obtaining a pass for me to attend. We shall see.
Rave to the max: Jesus Christ is risen!
Karen O.,
Panera had a great chicken salad; I ordered it two or three times. And two really good sandwiches. And tasty chocolate-chip bagels. And the last time I went there (not counting last night, when I didn’t even look at the menu), they didn’t have ANY of those items, or anything that looked good. I read the whole menu several times and let multiple people in line ahead of me.
I don’t get into exotic stuff (I take off the feta cheese, for instance). I’m a person who goes to a restaurant, finds something good, and orders the same thing forever after. If I don’t like what I order the first time (which was true of my first time or two at Panera), then I order something different the next time. To be constantly changing the menu means people like me simply don’t want to eat there–I have to read the menu in detail every time, and I may or may not like what I order. No thanks.
EYG, congratulations!! I hope it’s a lot of fun.
Cheryl - They didn’t have chicken salad? I just had that on Tuesday for lunch.
I agree that a restaurant shouldn’t change their menu too much or too often. And if they do, they should keep the basics & favorites.

He is risen indeed, Alleluia!
Rave:
(#1)
She’s home
We had a real dinner tonight.
She’s talking to a sister in SC that she saw about four hours ago.
Ivan, it looks like I’m going to be going to the conference after all. Perhaps we can meet up instead at the conference. I’ll still buy you the cup of coffee if you want.
