Tiger balm
True mythos is hard to come by these days, especially in professional sports. Athletes used to be heroes, or at least that’s what I’m told. Now, they’re just celebrities who wear the same clothes every time they perform. But there’s one guy who has managed to keep heroism alive, at least on the field of play.
He was a confluence of races with a sovereign smile and a killer name, and he arrived as if he had been born not just to win golf tournaments and out-earn everyone except Oprah on the Forbes list of highest-paid celebrities, but also to redeem the racist history of his sport and cure a thousand other ills as well. Over the top with pride, his father, Earl, was quoted calling him “the Chosen One” and prophesying that Tiger would “do more than any other man in history to change the course of humanity.”
And with that unusual prediction, thus begins this great profile of Tiger Woods, whose international fame is going on 12 years, and whose mythos only gets better.

HSK,
‘Now, they’re just celebrities who wear the same clothes every time they perform.’
I thought for a minute there you were going to point out that Tiger wears a red Nike golf shirt, just on Sundays to let the rest of the field know he can’t be beat.
Let’s hope he never builds golf courses in Africa
Sorry to you Oprah fans.
Tiger Woods was the precursor to Barack Obama.
Rooting for him was an easy way for white people to fell magnanimous. Black people made him their own even though he has less black lineage than Barack.
It seems like Tiger has been more interest in chasing the almighty dollar than he has been in fulfilling his father’s utterly preposterous prediction.
Instead of yet another debate or town-hall, how about a round of four-ball at the local putt-putt course?
Obama and Tiger Woods vs. McCain and Phil Michelson
Ten bucks says that a frustrated McCain, unable to putt through the rotating blades on the famous windmill hole, throws his putter at an MSNBC cameraman.
#3 Travis, LOL
Bet he hits him too hopefully teaching MSNBC that they shouldn’t bow down at Obama’s feet and worship him like they have been until he ie elected. Otherwise people will have good reason to think MSNBC are in the tank for Obama. OOOPPSSSS too late.
Can Obama golf as well as he can bowl?
Ok, everybody settle down! We’re talking about a guy who plays a game for a living! Stop all this nonsense about “redeeming history” and being “the chosen one”. The guy plays a (silly) game, and he makes an obscene amount of money for doing so. End of story.
Now get back to doing something for the Kingdom of God…ie, something worthwhile.
Tiger’s alright. However, he should have been more humble in his opinion of hockey. Gretzky was good to him when golf was dissed.
