One of the funniest movies ever: Blazing Saddles
The “campfire scene” was totally rad and hysterical…….aaaahh, for a pot of beans
OOOOOOOOOOOOH…. my first virtual morning tea (no cappies, please)
and I’ll even bake the morning’s assortment of baked goodies…….
err…..I just remembered…..funeral # 7 of the new year this morning.
blaaaah
Rats! The first time I actually knew the answer (it was a rather easy one though) and Justus beats me to it.
how about another one Lynn, since this one was so easily guesed.
Justus,
My goodness!
That’s terrible. May I ask, who?
We had one, and believe me, I hope it’s the last!
Justus wins! Blazing Saddles is correct. Please enjoy your virtual tea…
~~0)
Meta: Okay, here’s a harder one:
“Say hello to my leedle friend!”
Without going into details that are best left unstated, I got a phone call last night about 10. I asked if he would like prayers. He said yes. As you are going about your day, please pray for John and Donnette.
Re: the second quote - might it be “The In laws” (first one)?
p.s. if so, I, too, am a tea drinker
#6 I know that one, but I’ll let Metanoia have it. I already have a diet coke.
Attempt number two…
Anyone else have difficulty with the search feature on WMB?
It never fails that even when I know key words to search for, it won’t turn up the post I’m looking for.
What’s been your experience with the search feature? Am I doing something wrong? Or don’t understand it?
You have them, Kim.
Please post about the kidnapped US aid worker in Afghanistan. no one else seems to care.
Make it Man,
I have had trouble in the past. But, it’s not a feature I use regularly enough. What kinds of things are you searching for?
#6: Scarface
My goodness, the second quote is easier than the first (and Stubob got it).
Haven’t we had the “Mongo” quote before?
Make It Man,
Did you see my response yesterday regarding search? It doesn’t seem to search our comments, only the initial post (which is only useful if you remember something about the topic of the post).
Afghan women are managing to protest despite the risks. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5983112
Surely Americans can at least put it on the news.
Sorry if I seem curt. I am on a soapbox about this today, but I’m also at work at just grabbing a quick second (or two) to raise awareness. So please overlook the shortness of my messages.

Make it Man (11): What’s been your experience with the search feature? Am I doing something wrong? Or don’t understand it?
Frank: As I recall, under the prior WMB configuration, I was able to search for terms within the thread, including all comments.
This new iteration doesn’t seem to have this vital (IMHO) ability.
OK, I was close; this is the quote from “The In Laws: “You notice my friend? This is Señor Pepe.”
Anyone remember this movie (the original). In my mind, as movies go, it’s a classic.
It’s the only line in Scarface that you can quote on a family-friendly blog.
RJEDWAR,
That is a good and very moving story.
God help those women.
I hope they get what they want, without retribution. They are being very brave.
I still can’t see photos of shrouded, shamed women and not ache for them and for our world. What oppression.
Mommy,
The original In-Laws is great. Peter Falk’s best performance, IMHO. Blows Meet the Parents out of the water, and it’s not even close.
Pauline,
No I didn’t see your response. I’ll go check that thread.
Frank, EYG, and Pauline,
Thanks for the heads up. We should suggest that the search feature include a search on the thread contents as well. I make comments and like to see what the response is, but don’t always remember what thread they are in, so if I can’t find it again, I look for words in my comment.
Well I am depressed. I had two job interviews today. I really wanted the second one. I called to get directions to the facility this morning and they cancelled on me. They got cold feet about hiring another sales person right now.
If you people keep making suggestions and they keep implementing them, this place is going to be so crowded we won’t be able to find the threads. And I don’t like cell phones either.
Mumsee,
Actually I think finding threads just got easier because of the left side bars. If they bring back the search feature, it will take no additional space.
If you continue to protest improvements, I’ll suspect you’re just a Luddite…
Besides, I don’t think things will change all that quickly. It took them long enough to get preview back. And getting that back was certainly a relief!
Hey Kim,
Sorry about the interviews…
Keep looking girl! This is the hardest part of looking for a job. You have to make it your full time job until you find the one you want.
I know about looking for jobs too. Since I came to Georgia in the early 80’s I’ve had 14 different jobs. In fact, I’ve worked longer at my current place of employment than at any other job and I’m only finishing my 6th year…
Keep your head up, and keep your name out there. You’ll find one eventually.
Justus - Your broad grin in your avatar picture reminds me a lot of my husband’s smile. (When he smiles broadly, his whole face smiles.)
Now I know, because of your stated appreciation for Blazing Saddles (which Lee also likes a lot), that you have the same taste (?) in movies.
Not sure what that says about either of you.
Hey.. can I get credit for coming close to an author of the quote on yesterday’s Whirled Views? At least it was humorous… or not. Chas says I don’t get nuthin.
Make It Man,
I am just sayin..
OK, anybody know how to do the Gravatar thing. Got an account, got a cool picture, how do you get it to work here?
Did you get the “confirm” screen over on Gravatar?
You can get the avatar to show up on WMB by logging in here and clicking on the blue link in your screen name just above the editing area where you post to the thread. This link will take you to your profile area. Input all the pertinent information (email address you used at gravatar), save the changes and you should be good to go.
Also your email address should only have lowercase letters in it or it won’t work right either. Gravatar didn’t like it when I used some upper case and changed it to lower case, and the avatar changes wouldn’t work. Once I changed to another email address with all lowercase letters and created another account everything worked fine.
Gravatars take a few/several days to appear.
Also, no need for test posts to see if it has arrived. It will show up next to all your old posts as well as your current ones.
Hiya folks! Good thing I had today off……what a funeral. EYG, it’s my state senator from my ole neighborhood, Roger Badeau. He was 71….had pancreatic cancer. Lots of state dignitaries, too. “twas a long one folks, and this one was not easy. Roger was a long time friend of my Dad. His son, Mark is a long time friend of mine, since we were 11. And his daughter is my kid sister’s best buddy. So, I really had to attend this one, ya know. I even got to shake hands with our Governor, Don Carcieri!
Thanks for your concern, too.
Let’s hope I have filled my quota for ‘08, eh?
Karen O #31 - Oh, thanks so much for the kind words, me sistah! When I finally figured out how to retreive the gravatar, I used a photo from my wedding to my beloved bride, Helen! I didn’t realize all they’d allow was a thumbnail sized pic, so I got the best I had.
And it is obvious to me, Karen, your husband is a cultured man of varied tastes and appreciation for the rather silly things of society. Mel Brooks really is a comic genius. Hey, what does your hubby think of my favorite of all time - CHARIOTS OF FIRE??
“It will show up next to all your old posts as well as your current ones.”
Actually I’ve had the opposite experience. I’ve posted and the avatar shows up in the new post, but all the old ones are still the old image.
I had the same experience as Cameron–my new avatar showed up on my old posts.
Lynn
Some of the posts are very long on other threads, could there be a 3,000 word max., on a single post, which would make for easier reading?
Justus - Yes, Lee liked Chariots of Fire very much.
He also likes the 3 Stooges, Jerry Lewis, Peter Sellars, the Rocky movies, & White Christmas, among others.
in my world: the greatest film EVER made, and the soundtrack is wonderful to listen to, Chariots of Fire.
I always liked Field of Dreams, too, K. Not only because I’m going to play my 40th year in baseball/softball this summer, but the storyline of Ray Kinsella and his dad at film’s end. Kind of reminds me of the lost opps I had with mine.
I always liked films that were not so famous. Victory comes to mind. It had Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine about WW2 prisoners setting up a soccer match between themselves and the guards, only to use the soccer match as a means of escape.
The Stooges rock. And I don’t mean Iggy and them.
Good day San Diego! Brrr - quite cool for my two-day business trip. Glad I brought my downfilled vest.
Hi, adios! Good surf today?
I stopped at a Starbucks this morning. I saw a brunette woman in the corner madly typing away on a computer. Hmm, could it be her?
She was cackling with glee, and appeared to be ranting…no, raving… no, strike that again…ranting to herself. She was wearing a “B-HO throws like a girl” button on her right lapel. It must be her, right?
Her pink iPod, which sat on top of a very dog-eared copy of “The Purpose Drive Blog”, was cranked to 11. Judging by the frequency of her toe tapping, and the back and forth swaying of her bangs, it appeared she was listening to a 70s power-rock ballad.
Is that really a referees whistle around her neck? Woa, she takes this stuff seriously.
I wanted to say ‘hi’, I wanted to sing along. I wanted to buy her some decaf. But I caved. I missed my chance. I’m such a loser.
Justus - We liked Field of Dreams, too. Lee says one of his top favorites is Sound of Music. He’s also a big Jimmy Stewart fan, & likes movies that can make one cheer at the end, even with a little tear in the eye.
On a recent Sun. afternoon, Lee was flipping through channels & came across a movie called The Last Castle. That was pretty good, with themes we both like - honor & sacrifice.
