Meditation 3.1

Gravatar  4 Comments

On Saturdays, we consider a passage of Scripture…

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

1 Peter 1:13-16

  1. Holiness: So many interpretations of that. All it means is separate. It has nothing to do with how we dress or what we do. If we are separated for God, we will dress right and do good. Am I doing what God wants me to do? Then I am holy.

Preparing your minds for action. In my sport, tennis, preparing for a match included several things: exercise, practice, talking with the coach, listening to wise counsel, eating right and drinking water, focusing. That can transfer to the thought of preparing your minds for action. Reading the word and meditating on it, talking with the Lord and listening to Him, seeking the counsel and teaching of wise believers who have gone before through fellowship, church, classes, and reading, talking about the things of the Lord to reach better understanding and working alongside older believers to learn to serve. Keeping the eyes open for opportunities to serve.

Good thoughts Peter L and Mumsee.

Older translations instead of saying “preparing your minds for action” say “girding up the loins of your mind.” If I was wearing a toga or a robe and then needing to run a race it is likely that I would gather the loose cloth and try to fix it in place around my thighs so that I don’t trip over it as I ran. Not that there is anything wrong with that extra cloth, in fact if not running a race it is most appropriate, but there are so many things that can act as a distraction from our main focus-following and serving Jesus.

  4. Be so surrendered to the One within you that He lives out His holiness through you.

Do not be conformed to what you used to be. Be conformed to Jesus!
